Some credit to Juarez may be in order...

OK, I realize that the judges scorecards at the time of the stoppage were, to put it charitably, off base (although I only had Barrios ahead by one or two points, taking into account the two rather atrocious point dedcutions at the time of the stoppage). I also think the officiating was jaw-droppingly bad at points.

But, taking that into account, I think Juarez showed an awful lot of guts and quite a bit of skill in order to come back, and stop a very inspired Jorge Barrios. Even when he was losing the earlier rounds, he was landing some very nice, clean shots, and gave me the impression that he could really damage Barrios once he started to let his hands go.

Barrios certainly looked gassed going into the 10th and 11th rounds, but I'm not certain that was a direct result of having points dedcuted from him. His whole fight plan seemed predecated upon using a lot of movement, and throwing a lot of punches to keep Rocky at bay, but even then it didn't seem like he wasn't inflicting the type of damage to really eliminate any chance that Juarez might accelerate in the latter portion of the fight. Meanwhile, the shots that Rocky landed did seem to take their toll, and that, I think, was what led to stoppage.

So, yeah, I think Juarez deserves some props for being to resucitate his career with a nice victory, espeically when one considers that the Barrios that he fought wasn't the crude, balls-to-the-wall slugger that a lot of people were expecting to see.

Even with the scoring controversy, and the lousy officiating, it was a hell of a fight, and I'd like to see them go at it again (on neutral territory, of course).

    Just saying...

The only thing I dont like about Juarez or Diaz is their New Kids on the Block Promoter. Did you see Oscar last night? With his little vest, and his hair all moussed? He looked like Siegfried and Roy's new pool boy.

All that aside, I'm glad Juarez got this "W"...and is the WBO Mexican Heritage Champion, or whatever that belt was, I'd like to see him win a REAL Title soon.

It was a great fight and I wouldnt mind seeing it again. The ref should be beaten by a group of people with rubber hoses. I'm glad it didnt go to the cards because Barrios should've won if it had and we all know he wouldnt have

Great fight, maybe after 4 attempts Juarez can go and win a world title finally, the guy is a great fighter and as for Barrios he really needs to think seriously about his future plans

i agree Juarez deserves some credit but put the fight on neutral ground and its a different story who knows what the outcome would be.

 No, the most I would do, was get in his face at a Press Conference and interrogate him about the Sturm "Victory" and his inability to avenge key losses. :hey

Juarez was going to stop Barrios in that round or the next anyway's..IMO
That cut was awful tho, HBO team was way to harsh on Rocky.
(The fight was defo not that one sided like they made it seem)

Barrios was throwing mostly arm punches with no power on them.
Those judges do need their eyes checked.

And you have to wonder also, was Juarez really that good against fighters who come straight at him, or had Barrios fallen such a long way. It's hard to forget the wonderful war he had with Freitas, his reign as WBO champ till his close points loss to Guzman. Then suddenly, here he is getting a good going over from Juarez who is a level below JMM among others.

Guys, Juarez basically took the first 8 rounds off. Yeah, he deserves some credit, I guess, but look at it this way, if Barrios doesn't have those two points taken away from him, which led him and his corner to rightfully believe it was a very close fight on the scorecards, he fights a different fight in those last few rounds. Juarez's stamina was better last night, no doubt, but only because he threw 20 punches a round for the first 8 rounds while Barrios was working him.

He would do exactly what George W. Bush does when he is questioned about WMDs in Iraq. He would ignore what he is too afraid to answer. We all saw what Oscar's heart was all about rounds 10-12 against Trinidad!:smoke

Why do you all see Juarez as losing all the first 8. Was it the announcers? I saw nothing in the early rounds that showed Barios dominating Rocky. Rocky landed the cleaner shots, he landed the more effective shots, and he had excellent defense, how could you not give him a majority of the rounds before the stoppage.

I agree 100% with you here. Juarez should be more busy, but he was landing good jabs and occasional right hands throughout the fight. Barrios was busy, but, overall I thought he was only slightly more effective than Juarez. I had the fight even going into the 11th round (as a result of the unneccesry point deductions).
