Doug Fischer, who thinks that Pacquiao has a chance to beat De La Hoya along with his partner Steve Kim, has stated that trainer Rudy Hernandez believes that Pacquiao can win, and likened the potential fight between De La Hoya and Pacquiao as a 'Roy Jones vs. John Ruiz scenario.' The direct quote was; "..one guy is just too quick, his reflexes are too much for the naturally bigger fighter.."

Based on De La Hoya's last fight with Steve Forbes, they believe that Oscar has slowed down enough to represent a Ruiz type figure, and Pacquiao is fast enough to represent a Roy Jones type figure.

The question is, does Pacquiao have the actual skillset and defensive tools to pull off that type of win? Does Pacquiao have the raw ability and boxing skills to essentially school De La Hoya in that type of fashion?

Freddie Roach wouldnt be so desparate for the fight unless he though Pacquiao could win.

More to the point - what happens when Pacquiao starts getting caught cleanly?

i mean before the forbes fight i woulda said hell no but forbes is not really much bigger than pac.de la hoya looked probably looked more ****ed up in the face than i can remember. i believe pac is faster than forbes more intense and probably got a little more pop.

that is the reason why i wouldn't say it's a 50/50 fight probably about 65/35 just because oscar would have been the biggest, strongest and definitely the hardest hitting guy manny has ever faced

I'm compelled to agree, should Pacquiao get hit with the right punches - or enough of them. This isn't Whitaker, Mayweather, or Pep we're talking about. This is a guy who has made his name in the sport as an explosive puncher/offensive whirlwind sort - who isn't incredibly hard to hit. He's going to have to completely outbox a significantly larger, stronger, highly skilled opponent for 12 rounds without taking much damage. That isn't Manny, and that isn't going to change overnight. That Diaz fight has people trippin if they think otherwise.

Experts has their biases too. :D

This is common sense . . . Steve Forbes is a more fluid boxer than Pac . . . Forbes could spank Pac's ass anytime at 147 . . . how could Pac possibly outbox DLH? :deal

I don't think he has a chance but pac will surely make it a fight.

Pac sure does have a chance but not big enough to make me pick him to win it. He will shock DLH in displaying his handspeed but I think DLH slows the fight down and puts some hurt on Pacman. DLH will just take steps back when Pac comes in and will let those combos flow.

pac does have a chance but they are forgetting he is not a defensive fighter and will get hit oftenly especially by oscar's jab. Pac has a solid chin but that was against fighters in his weight range, not fighters 4 divisions bigger than him.

Pac will have a very very very slim chance to hurt ODHL!
He can win by doing what CALDORON does best!

It would look like the Gatti and Mayorga fights.. DLH toys with him practically all night. Teasing us and letting the rounds go by so before you know it Pacman is a bloody mess.
