Some facts about The Magic Man

Good day I am one of the online promoters/website owners of Team Magic Man. I am writing, as I see it is my duty, to inform the interested press and fans what has happened behind the scenes of Paulie "Magic Man" Malignaggi.
His life from the start has been a struggle and far more tough of a battle than any ring-fight he has ever been in. Paulie is a survivor, a warrior and he has a heart that is tougher than steel. Behind the scenes, his personal life has been hectic, and I feel, in my humble opinion, that it has effected his abilities in the ring.
Paulie had a very long time off prior to fighting Herman Ngoudjo and he is a normal, virile 27 year old, attractive, vivacious and fun young man. During his Ngoudjo training camp he got involved with a fan that contacted our fansite. I am not going to disclose her name, info, etc unless prompted, but I beleive this set the stage to his lackluster performances.
Paulie has had little time and relationship with his own mother, and he had recently dumped his long-time girlfriend Franny who had been with him since his early "nobody" days. He did not need another female relationship but it happened during the Vero Beach training camp in December of 2007. Peter Sferraza, Paulie's best friend and Magic Man Team Leader, contacted the fan through Myspace, I have seen several messages. Paulie is a very naive person when it comes to women, and once he started contacting this fan he let himself go. He became romatically involved with this woman, to such degrees that his trainer, Buddy, had to argue with him. Pete, his closest friend and Team Leader, even had to intervene many times. Paulie focused on the woman and not his training, this is a very common problem in boxing and in sports.
I heard from several Team members that Paulie and this woman would talk several hours into the night, causing him fatigue and lack of training. Only Paulie Malignaggi would fall for a girl weeks before a title defense, but that is him, he has a huge heart and he is a human despite his incredible gifts.
Upon returning home to Brooklyn, NY 2 weeks before the fight. He and this woman had sexual contact. That is a very bad "no-no" in this industry, it is known to have poor results upon even the most skilled fighters of our time. I believe, as do others in Team Malignaggi, that he was not focused and off of his game, due to this "love-affair". He spent a lot of money and attention on this woman, who most knew was wrong for him. Team Members warned him and he did not listen. Paulie seemed more obsessed with this woman than he did his own fight. He knew Ngoudjo was an easy win, so he let himself go to be with this troubled woman.
The trouble started after his poor performance against Ngoudjo. The woman Paulie had fallen for had now gotten back together with her boyfriend. Paulie was devastated and endulged himself in alcohol. I have been with the Team for years and I have never seen Paulie act this way, and for a girl! Paulie felt that he had a future with her and she lied about various things, her age being one, and lead him on, a very unsavory female. He started camp in bad condition and he was never focused still thinking about this woman. His head was not there to begin with. He confided in my fellow site developer as well as many of his friends that this emotional issue was taking a toll on him.
Paulie changed his hair and went to Sicily, mostly so he could clear his head on this. I know that Paulie has never had his heartbroken by a girl, usually he has them all swooning over him, he never took a blow to his ego and heart like this before.
I am not excusing him, Team Malignaggi does not make excuses. I am humanizing him so that everyone stops critizing him. He has incredible talents, and one of the most illuminating stars in sports today but he has dealt with some pain we all have gone through, so cut the guy some slack!!@!!!!!!!!!!!!
