so, today, after the normal stuff like jumping rope, pads, etc., my trainer took me outside and had me do a few drills. the first was to take each rock from this pile of about 40 rocks, and sprint with it over to this cone about 15 feet away and drop it there. once I had dropped all the rocks there, I had to do the same thing to bring them back. this drill was very good because it worked strength in a compound way, got my lungs going, and worked my anaerobic system pretty well. it seems drills like these, where the movement of matter is more natural than slow and controlled - like certain weighted exercises - has the greatest benefit (which is why tire training is arguably the best for power). the next drill, and I know I'll get some criticisms for this, was as follows: my trainer held my legs and had me walk about 25 feet on my knuckles (on the pavement). he let me rest, but I had to do it once more. I feel that this drill is the type of thing fighters should do to build mental fortitude/tolerance for pain...i.e., at the beginning I didn't think I could make it, but by the end I was able to tune it out. so, while there have been many advances in training, today just showed me how much you can do with, and gain from, your environment and more natural exercises.
Weirdos i reckon. I mean, our fists get wrapped and stuffed into boxing gloves you know? Strange people in this world.
this is the training section, ******. I don't go to a boxing class. it's called training, which encompasses quite a lot. what is so hard to get about this? it's called enduring pain.
The first ones good but i can beat the second , in my boxing gym he hasnt bothered buying heavy bags or gloves , we just hit the brick wall as hard as possible. Were all as hard as nails now. Hes got a similar thing to the rocks but its slightly different we stand by a cone and he just hurls rocks at us , really toughens up the head and body.:good :tong
I don't get why people are against this type of training. in thailand they make the kids kick bamboo trees. I mean, there are so many worse things that fighters in other countries do. it's like people think doing training where you deliberately endure pain is stupid...I mean, I wouldnt have someone drops bricks on my head, but still...
kids in cuba dont eat for days to make weight, in china they make themselves bleed to make the skin tougher. this isn't old school training, its just stupid.
but that's just your perception. "stupid" is a relative term. just because it doesn't agree with all the scientific facts you base your training on... oh yeah, I didn't mean the second drill was old school, only the first, in the sense that it was simple, natural, etc.
The point is to kill nerves in the shin so they don't feel pain when they kick someone in the face, nothing to do with mental toughness. Since boxers wear gloves the "training" you're doing is just stupid.
ok, you're right, the point is to kill nerve fibers, but it still toughens them up. I'm just saying that I would feel more confident going into a fight knowing I did **** my opponent didnt do or was too scared to do...yeah boxers wear gloves, so what? you can't tell me that kind of drill doesnt build fortitude. calling it stupid is stupid. I have a few small ass scrapes on my knuckles. it's not like I was punching the ground. point blank: hard body training to toughen up mind and body. some call it stupid, I have no clue why. you can't always train in a nice warm gym with gloves and headgear on. you gotta break yourself down. and I'm not claiming to be some tough ass guy...but I am willing to do such drills because they do benefit me mentally.
