that's kind of my point. some people will do that, but I think the training should be the hard part (like really hard), so that the fight is easy.

First exercise seems great, I'll try that one out when I get a chance. I'm not a fan of #2 though.

Yeh the kids in martial arts in the orient do do things like that to toughen them up. It is actually proven scientifically to work , it makes bone structure denser. HOWEVER this is KIDS from very young ages when their bones are still developing, how old are you? By walking on you hands i think youll just be damaging your most important tools in this sport. How you gunna feel when you have glass hands in fights later on. Walking on your hands with flat palms would be good, but i imagine that your just damaging your hands. You should ask your doctor actually if you dont believe us see what he says.

lol nice pic, yeh i was just kidding, cant remember who it was now but some english marathon runner was saying its the best sort of recovery shes never sore if she gets in one. Think id rather be sore tho lol.

Hypnotic iv never heard of a tree that is softer than a heavy bag, also iv seen footage of martial artists hitting concrete , dense wood ect when they are very young so he is right it does happen , my point was i cant see that sort of bone conditioning working on a fully developed adult. So unless you know exactly what your talking about try to refrain from calling people ******s. You only make yourself look stupid.:thumbsup

I can kinda see where your coming from but i just think that these days sport has gone beyond these old school methods , and realised that they can be damaging. Im no expert but maybe you should look into it and find out for yourself what your doing to your body and weather these "exercises" are actually benificial

Regarding the ice baths... Have you seen the recent video of Wanderlei Silva prepare for Chuck Liddell. He used the ice baths to help his body recover faster after doing hard calisthenic drills.

The martial art toughen up drills are good for weeding out *****'s. Other than that, they do not improve performance or improve bone denisity more than doing other hitting drills. What top 10 ranked boxer or MMA does traditional toughen up drills?

Sorry but your wrong , thats an old myth that those martial arts drills were just for show, studies have shown now that it does improve bone density and the bones will actually compact and become harder. Iv read it a few times but i believe i last saw it on national geog fight science ( may be wrong but thats where i think i last saw it). As for mma i have know idea but the fact that mma is a sport that for the most part mimics several martial arts , suggests that they are not going to be as advanced as 1 single martial arts training perfected over hundreds sometimes 1000's of years. And like i said this type of bone conditioning is done from an early age so for the average mma or boxer who starts in his teens it will probably not help as the bones are developed and would be more brittol. MMA is no where close to being the pinicale of martial arts so its not much good comparing their training techniques.

did you just use the word ******?:patsch

you are a ****ing idiot, they don't kick trees because they can't afford heavy bags. that's why there are gyms. also, why do the asian kids cut themselves?

I wouldn't refuse a specific drill unless I felt very strongly about it. my trainer isn't unreasonable and has my best interests in mind.

that's good, but you get used to it after a couple of minutes.

oh yeah, john, I'm almost 18.

hey john boy and nwil the dumbases
    http://www.horizonmuaythai.com/history.html#early_days
In the early days Muay Thai training equipment was found from nature. The smooth, slightly spongy nature of the trunk of a banana tree was found suitable for kicking practice.
