I was checking out Britain's Olympic medals in boxing from when WADA took over testing in 1999 until now. As a point of comparison I compared the UK to the USA, who tend to finish top of the medal table.

Total number of medals at the 2000, 2004, 2008 & 2012 games was:

    - Britainh won 3 Bronze medals & USA won 4
    - Britain & USA both won 2 silver medals
    - Britain won 4 Gold Medals, and USA won 1.

Another interesting point was the number of medals won by the UK increased over this period, while USA's dropped each passing games.

To further investigate I compared that to the previous 4 games (1984, 1988, 1992 & 1996) and noticed a big difference.

During that period the UK managed just 3 bronze medals.

USA meanwhile managed a startling 9 Bronze medals, 5 Silver medals and 14 Gold medals :yikes

To check out the efficiency of WADA I then compared the number of athletes who competed in the games who was either caught during or after the games.

    Pre 1999:
UK had 1 disgrace, whereas USA had 7 disgraces.

    Post 99:
UK haven't had any disgraces, whereas the USA have had 12.

    Discuss. :think

Nobody goes to Olympics anymore in the U.S. unless they are already rich for most sports.
Boxing promoters have absorbed many young fighters out of the gyms and into their stables. Look up the beef between Iron Mike Promotions and USAB I think :huh.

These kids wanna skip college and go straight to the pros. The Olympics aren't paying ****. Good luck to the UK.:good

Is that because without the hard work and medication they aren't winning anymore? :think

Maybe. If they paid these guys they might fight. Amir Khan wants to go back to the Olympics as a rich pro fighter, he will be comfortable but what about the young broke guys watching him soak up all the attention from them?:-(

The Brits can have it if you like, but you want to be somebody in the world, you come to America!!! And you know this....MAN:deal

It seems exactly when drug testing becomes legit is the exact same time americans declare that no one cares about that sport anymore, hmm interesting

Yeah I don't follow cycling much but we was discussing PED disgraces in sports in the bozer a few months ago, and my mate who follows it says ever since this Neil Armstrong dude got caught out for being radioactive, the sport became exposed and the UK became a major force when it became about hardwork & dedication, as opposed to hardwork & medication.

    What a weak thread!

It is no secret that amateur boxing is hurting, what golden gloves used to do over 2 weeks at Madison Square garden could now be done n weekend at a school gym. MMA has severely cut into the pool in to Americam boxing talent. So it shouldn't be a shock that there has been a drop in Olympic performance . Even less shocking is that some jingoistic tool tries to spin it into something more.

I'm glad though the UK has had some increased success.

Why is it then that the British Lionhearts are one of the worst in the WSB?
