I have recently restarted watching MMA, I remember years ago when Ken Shamrock and Royston(?) Gracie (he was a multi time ufc champ) were fighters in the UFC. I am also aware of Chuck Liddell and another few fighters but my knowledge is not that sound. A few questions to the MMA fans

The best fighter is not in the UFC, Fedor is the best imo but he is not a UFC fighter. Why does he not fight there? Has he fallen out with this Dana White (owner?) or is the money not good enough in UFC?

Randy Couture is one of the best in UFC but has contract problems with UFC this seems to be getting in the way of a fight fans want to see Couture Vs Fedor. I think Fedor wins this match. What are Coutures chances in this match? Will it be made?

Dana White recently commented that Fedor would be one of the Top 5 heavyweights in UFC. Rather than say he would be #1 or #2. Who are the other guys Dana is talking about that are around Fedors level?
Is Dana bitter that Fedor does not fight in UFC?
Or is Dana a good guy and I am catching the wrong end of stories from the internet?
(isnt Dana White a chick from a tv gameshow in the states?)

Any good fights/fighters to recommend I watch on youtube or other MMA sites?

    Cheers

    No.
He is a very smart businessman who along with the Fertitta brothers has guided the UFC into becoming the worlds premier MMA organization and by extension is responsible for the mainstream growth and explosion of interest in MMA in North America. He plays a pivitol role in the sport of MMA whether his detractors like to admit this or not.
However he does say some extremely stupid things every now and then and he has a foul mouth.

EDIT: Ok, just for clarification, the original thread title was "Is Dana White evil" without reading the actual first post I responded to that. Just clearing that up since my post has nothing to do with what the TS is asking.

I was heading for a Is Dana White evil / Tell me about the UFC & Fedor

but I clicked through like an idiot. Cant see where to edit the title? It only gives me body text. (I will try to adjust thread head)

Is Dana White = Frank Warren?

Adjusted thread heading. (Go advanced doh!)

No, he's definitley not like Frank Warren. More like the opposite, he doesn't protect fighters and put on shitty matches all the time. The vast majority of UFC fights are good with the best fighters fighting one another.

Nice, I have to see some more fights of UFC.
Its good to see a good fighters going after each other.

Did you see the Fedor vs Sylvia fight? Fedor reputedly made $2m for the fight.

Dana is a crying ***** because he didn't get Fedor. Apparently according to Fedor, UFC was very rough in their negotiations. Fedor said their attitude was "take this deal, or leave it. You'll still come crawling back to us" So he felt he was very disrespected and didn't sign with UFC out of principle and because their contract was too restrictive. He said basically UFC would hold him under contract indefinitely, and if he ever lost, he could get kicked out of UFC if they felt like it. Plus, he couldn't compete in Sambo, and he couldn't do any interviews or any other promotional stuff without UFC's permission.

It's true, and that is a very very awesome thing about the UFC.

Every man fighting for a belt has EARNED his right to his chance for the belt by winning fights against legit competition. It's not easy to get a title shot in the UFC, and when you do earn it and win the title, it's not easy at all to defend it (unless you are Anderson Silva.)

MMA fighters get a lot of flack for not having boxer-like records, and the majority of the cause of the what may seem like lackluster records comes from the need to have a very very good diverse fighting game, being able to beat wrestlers and BJJ black belts and excellent Muy Thai strikers etc.

But another very very real variable in that mix (in the UFC at least) is Dana White and Joe Silva who, for the most part, simply do not allow fighters to have easy gimme fights.

You take a guy like Brock Lesnar. Sure, he is a WWE guy and a major attraction due to his sorta freakshow nature. But he has already faced former HW champ Frank Mir and a very solid fighter in Heath Herring. There's very few gimmes in the UFC, very few seemingly "fixed" fights (Hamil-Bisping comes to mind), the legitimacy of MMA in general and the UFC in particular stems from Dana White refusing to play the part of corrupt boxing promoter just so he could make more money.\

Dana White has his flaws, but overall I think there can be no arguing that he, in the grand scope of things, is good for MMA and will go down as a legendary and extremely influential figure in the sport.

before Fedor fought Silvia White said Fedor was not even a top 10 Heavyweight :rofl

The truth is the UFC's Heavyweight Division is a joke. Dana White is a clown.

I like the fact that the 0 on a record does not matter so much in MMA. Unlike in boxing it looks like a loss does not diminish a fighter too much. Fighters can come back and still do well. This happens in boxing too of course many great champs have losses to their names. In todays publicity/hype a loss in boxing can be very damaging to a fighter and thus the boxers dont need to fight the best to be the best.

Having a 0 matter a LOT in MMA if you've fought good competition. That's probably the main reason Fedor wins P4P polls. The reason so many people don't have 0 is because in MMA even a mediocre fighter can pull off an upset. Upset can also come from anything(sub, ko etc).

Not having a 0, on the other hand, is a very commonplace.

Yeah that's the thing you quickly learn when watching this sport. Upsets happen a lot and it is not impossible for a gatekeeper to beat a champion (though , this also happens in boxing )....thing is , even people who you'd label as "can" have a chance. And if a "one dimensional" fighter happens to be really good in a certain discipline (such as judo) he's just as potentially dangerous as a top fighter.

Since takedowns and subs are allowed , there's way more options to pull a victory out of nowhere.

This is what makes Fedor simply amazing. He has never lost, despite fighting top competition.
