I never said anything about Witter's resume being better, infact it ain't that good, all the more reason you'd think that chicken Hatton would have had the bollocks to take him on over the past 5 years eh? Harris UD Lazcano
I have stood by Hatton over recent years but now I am starting to question why he isn't willing to fight Witter...A few years ago when Witter started calling him out and trying to discredit Hatton I agreed with Hattons decision not to fight him - for various reasons like Witter(who at the time was a complete nobody apart from his 'marathon' with Zab) hadn't beaten anyone of note or earned the fight. But now the 140 division deserves this fight and Ricky should be taking it. I believe that Malignaggi will be next after Lazcano and if Ricky doesn't agree to face Witter after that I will be very dissappointed. :think :think :think
Well a DQ without a warning would have been harsh but I think he should have been warned and then DQ'd if he kept it up. He spent the last 15 minutes of the fight just grabbing with no intention to punch.
I think hes got a point.Whether you think Hatton is avoiding people or not why you would want your countryman to lose or a any Brit against a foreigner is scandalous and you should be ashamed. No wonder this country isnt what it used to be with bitter unpatriotic people like you living here!
I think it's less a lack of patriotism than a kind of elitism. There seem to be a number of people around (and the make a vociferous faction on the ESB British board) that resent fighters that achieve any kind of popular appeal that transcends the usual boxing audience. It's a phenomenon that manifests itself in other areas as well of course. I have a friend that seems to rejoice in the fact that no-one else has heard of any of the bands he likes. He listens to stuff that is utterly obscure, and when any of the bands actually become popular swiftly distances himself, usually claiming that they 'sold out'. Likewise, for some poeple, they take a perverse pride in the fact that they watch boxing matches featuring people that no-one else in the country other than diehard boxing fans have actually heard of, and resent it when a fighter actually broadens their appeal beyond that. Thus it becomes a badge of honour for them to sneer at Hatton, Khan, Calzaghe, Haye - "oh but of course the man in pub has heard of Ricky Hatton", and to big up people like Witter to emphasise their superiority to those part time boxing fans.
it's none of that i'm afraid. like in any walk of life, if people think an individual is insulting their intelligence then they don't like it.Hatton is doing that and people take exception to his nonsense. the Witter situation is wholly unacceptable too.
Like Hatton crying that Witter has been badmouthing him, like most boxers do to try and get opponents into the ring, is that what you mean Sleaze ?
Hatton's not crying, he doesn't even mention Witter unless he's directly asked about him. Because like the rest of the world, Ricky doesn't give a **** about Witter.:hi:
Exactly Flux, but Ricky uses this as an excuse as to not fight Witter I have no axe to grind with Ricky, I think he is good for the sport but unfortunately this determination to avoid Junior is turning genuine boxing fans against him. I could understand it a few years ago but Witter has done more or less everything he can to make this happen and now the excuse appears to be that Ricky has bigger fish to fry. It is just one excuse after another. I want Ricky to bust Lazcano but I shall not be paying £15 to watch it as it is an absolute rip off for what is on offer. Ricky is in severe danger of alienating himslf from the proper fans of the sport but what does he care he is a proper tv star what with his Harry Hill appearance et al
