Did he ? He got the W in OZ, but most disagree that he 'beat' Pac. Teddy Atlas violently and vociferously disagrees. The decision almost caused him a coronary. Re: the question... Who's some of the worst guys, to hold a title, in your lifetime ? I think it needs to be reworded if we are to include Cotto. He came by the MW title in a rather easy manner, but I wouldn't call him one of the worst guys. Maybe , one of the least deserving, given Sergio's age and knee. But if we use least-deserving, then Evander's first grip on lineal resulted from Buster coming in very heavy, out of shape and unmotivated. I think Briggs meets both criteria, not of lineal HW champ stuff, and undeserving.
Did Pac beat Marquez in their third fight? The judges said yes so I go by that even if I disagree with the decision.
I'm not disagreeing with the fact that the judges awarded the decision to Horn. I'm drawing a distinction between 'beating ' and getting the decision. I would not agree that Felix Trinidad beat Oscar Oscar beat Felix Sturm Timmy Bradley beat Pac etc But I would obviously have to agree that all of the above ( on the left)) got decisions over those on the right. So it's probably semantics...defining what it means for one fighter to beat another fighter. I just can't get my head around stating that Park Si Hun beat Roy Jones in the 1988 Olympics.
Roach came out later on and said Horn won easily among other things. https://www.foxsports.com.au/boxing...s/news-story/b9b4baff8af368ebd5aa19fbb65e44d3
I wasn't aware of that, JT. However, I'm a bit skeptical about it all. On the night in question, he allowed that Pac won. He may have had reasons to change his mind, or to SAY he had changed his mind. And you have to seriously doubt either the scoring ability and/or integrity of anybody who says Horn won that fight easily. The use of the word easily points to credibility here. And finally, maybe Freddy , who has clearly taken a few head shots during his own days in the ring, might be having memory problems. I think I'll give it a re-watch this weekend to see what, if anything, Freddie was talking about.
Hey no worries. Plenty score it for Paq tho quite a few do for Frankie Forn too. Despite Horn being a fellow Aussie I've got no real skin in the game. I just thought i'd point the above out to you. @Pugguy - what are your memories of this one mate?
Leon Spinks Henry Akinwande Francisco Quiroz Josue Camacho (I saw him in person fight Michael Carbajal, he is my countryman and I had nothing to cheer that night)
Ooh, I'd have to have a look again JT. Like you, despite Horn being an Aussie, I had no investment in the fight - if I did in any way, it would've actually been for Manny, not Horn, lol. I recall thinking it was close, the decision wrong but perhaps not so much in the realms of an outright robbery, though one card was improperly wide as I recall. I think Horn caused a mini "upset" within the fight in respect of the way he roughed and manhandled Manny at times, in the zone of perhaps illegal tactics. But even so, that doesn't (or shouldn't) score points in itself or mean that Horn necessarily deserved an upset decision based on the whole fight. I think Manny copped cuts on the two separate occasions that they clashed heads - making Pac appear worse for wear but not by way of punches landed. How about you my friend, have you ever scored it yourself or what were your impressions otherwise?
Mate my thoughts mirror yours. Close fight and Horn on a fine line with the roughhousing. I can't criticise the tactics too much as Ali, Foreman and co got away with them at various points too.
Great point. ATGs tend to get more of a pass than the lesser lights when it comes to the practice of less than fully legal tactics. I should be more loyal to our boy Jeff, The Horn Man- and he hails from your state also, born and bred in good ol' Brisbane!
Queensland: Beautiful one day...perfect the next. Otherwise, fooking HOT! Tough? Anyone who smokes cane toad skin HAS to be tough. If the Beatles had indulged in same, they most certainly would've written a hit song about it - say, I am the Toad Man. Ever been overseas....to Tassie, population:10? Beautiful scenery but the folk are a lil bit strange. A savant banjo player on every street corner. Squeal like Tasmanian Tiger Boy! I visited in '88. Did the Port Arthur tour, pre-Martin Bryant shootings. It was eerie back then - so much sad history added to the location since then. And apparently that POS isn't living so bad in prison - appalling.
You've sure done your research!!!! Would you believe the only time i have been out of Queensland was travelling to Germany, France and Austria? LOL I gotta do Tassie. I've done plenty of maps of Tassie but just not Tassie itself. The one good thing to come out of that monsters massacre was the banning of semi auto, pump and lever action guns and a crack down on licensing. Unlike America we were no-where near the point of no return and it has had a fantastic affect. Sure there's still shootings now and then but most are bikie/gang related. I have zero doubt we would have had more mass shootings and what a blessing it was (gun bill) by the time Isis and co went global and plenty of crazies wanted to rise out here but lacked the means. Between the gun laws and changes to online privacy we dodged many "bullets" so to speak. Bruce Seldon, Stiverne and Charles Martin were pretty ordinary. Leon Spinks too.
I'm one of the people that believe Horn beat Pacquiao, and i didn't see the outcry for a robbery like alot of people did. Horn roughed up Pacquiao and made it his type of fight that's what i see personally.
