Last week, 80% of people were saying "yes, he's recovered from that shoulder injury, he looked impressive, Ibragimov sucks, give him another shot :happy:happy:happy".

Even in polls, no more than 60-65% picked Ibragimov if i remember correct.

And right now, all of sudden, many say "well he shouldn't have been in there in the first place", "he was washed up", etc. Typical fanboy stuff around here most of the time.

Yeah, you got me. I was dreaming a bit, partly I guess because Iggy hadn't impressed me much and would have loved to seen Holy do good. The thing is Iggy still didn't impress me much and Holy just didn't do ****. So with 20/20 hindsight now it would be better for Holy to hang it up before his record becomes so bad his early accomplishments will be over shadowed.

By the way, i didn't mean this as an "in your face!" thread for those who thought Holyfield would win; boxing is unpredictable so you can't count him out. I just think it's naive to support him before the fight and then disregard him as "shouldn't have been in there in the first place" after he loses.

But you have to expect this to the point of not even bothering to notice the aftermath much. To solve this, you have to attack the root of the problem.

We will one day be freed of such non sense.

Did I think he could win? Yes.

Therefore, this fight tells me two things: Holyfield didn't have that one last big effort, and Ibragimov isn't the total mediocrity I had him down as. And Holyfield should retire right now, because (a) he'll never get a better chance, and (b) that was a respectable enough way to go out, at least better than the Donald fight. Being competitive at a championship level at age 45 would be enough for any reasonable person.

I thought Holyfield did okay. Definitely not as shot as he looked against Larry Donald.
    Holyfield has improved since 2004.
He looked old, slow and clumsy on the follow-up, he's not a true world class fighter anymore, he has trouble pulling the trigger and initiating sustained attacks. But he scored with some good sharp right hands, he gave Ibragimov something to think about. What more do you expect from a 44 year old fighter ?

Holyfield's string of 4 wins proved little but it was enough to merit a shot at one of these titles. Take a look around. Look at the fighters who got shots against Maskaev and Valuev ! What the **** did Owen Beck, Monter Barret and Peter Okhello do to deserve a shot ?
The HW division has few good fighters.
In fact it probably has more "champions" than good fighters.

Truth is, Holyfield looked better than Shannon Briggs looked against Iggy, and Briggs was the "champion".

Everyone wants to talk about how **** Holyfield looked but we all know he's 44 years old, so there's no mystery.
What we should be asking is wny 95% of the 30 year old so-called "contenders" look equally bad.
