Some people are hypocrites when it comes to Holyfield

I indeed was surprised by how many gave Holyfield a chance of winning. Any full-time boxing writers said he'd have a shot. I just don't see it. He doesn't have the ability to land or evade on a consistent basis. He may be in better condition than he was a couple years ago, but he still is completely shot.

Holyfield needs to retire. But he won't.

 

I picked Holyfield to win but that came from my heart more than it did my head. Human beings do these things sometimes.

 

I gave holy a shot but wasn't expecting him to win! I did feel he'd go the distance and he did....but I think Holy should retire.....Imbrogimov is one of the most limited HW champs out there today and Holy had a really hard time with his style. ANy other World Champ would have made it a one sided beating at this stage in Holy's career.

 

I don't get it when some people say "Prime Holyfield" He lost 2 of 3 to Bowe in prime, last one by being knocked out cold.

 

please show me 1 person who said that "yes, he's recovered from that shoulder injury, he looked impressive, Ibragimov sucks, give him another shot". and then after the fight said "well he shouldn't have been in there in the first place"

Indeed, there was plenty of fools thought bought Holyfields recovered shoulder story, and bum of the month tour. They really thought he was still good, and could win. I argued with everyone of them.

 

Holy fans are same as Holyfield! When he beat Savarese who was shot himself they started to belive he is back on top! And sterted that BS "none gave holy chance aginst madone none gave chance aginst Oquendo and none gives a chance aginst Ibragimov, he will prove everybody wrong again!"

They just don't understand that he dosn't have tools to become champion again! He can still beat guys like Tye Fields and Soul MOntanas! But he couldn't even beat worst of champions Iggy!

Just don't get that excited when he will beat another 4 bums and fight for title again, its over!

 

Nothing would surprise me about him getting another title shot, deserved or not.

This is EXACTLY how I saw it, both before and after. Going in, it was not unreasonable to suggest that Holyfield had a decent shot, based on his victories over Oquendo and Savarese. As I said before the fight, the real question here was how much Holyfield really had left.

If he had any of his former ability left at all, that should have been enough for him to beat Iggy, who is ordinary at best. Clearly, the answer to the question was "not much." It is not hypocritical to make this determination, it is simply reevaluating based on further evidence. The astute boxing fan should regularly do this.

 

I take it you saw the fight, which is alot more than I believe most in this thread can say, yet their here criticizing the performance!:nut

Sonny the report is that Holyfield hurt Iggy in the 12th, how bad, and with what did Holyield hurt him and follow up with?

.....hurting Sultan in the 12th is impressive enough for a 45 year old far away from his prime.

I'll have to see the fight on ESPN classic this weekend, but it looks like to me that Holyfield still is competitive enough with fighters that stand in front of him ready to war.
Roberto Duran was the same way when he was fighting into his late 30's and into his 40's.

Its true what they say that the first to go in a fighter are his legs.
The problem with older fighters more so than their reflexes, is that they dont have the spring in their legs to manuever into punching postition, specifically if the target is moving.

Being a huge Holyfield fan, I kept my mouth shut on this one as far as analyzing the fight and making a prediction.

Having seen Sultan handily beat Briggs, you knew that Holyfield would have trouble against a fighter that was fighting on the backfoot.

.....but I actually did see hope for Holyfield if he found a way to get Sultan to get brave.
Sultan must have done his homework, because from all accounts he did'nt get brave and fought cautiously all the way through!

I'll see the fight this Saturday on ESPN Classic, but I must say as a huge fan of Holyfield that it hurts my boxing soul to see him struggle against 2nd raters like Sultan!:?

Same here, guy. In his prime, he would've beaten up a guy like this and stopped him somewhere in the mid to late rounds - maybe earlier.
