He would beat Liston, due to Sonny quitting on his stool, despite a shoulder injury.

He would outlast and beat prime Foreman because old George struggled with Peralta.

He would beat Ali because Ali said he hit hard.

He would beat prime Holmes because Nick Wells knocked out a novice Larry twice in the amatuers.

He would knock out prime Tyson because Mike would fold his tent when he felt the Rocks power.

He would stand and trade with prime Tua and win because David never realised his true potential and entered the silent agreement when hit by 240lb, 6ft 5" Lennox Lewis

    Incredible stuff really.!

    Any i may have missed.

And someone on here once accused Ali fans as making him out to be Superman!

What makes it all the more impressive is that none of above has anything whatsoever to do with his Heritage, bloodline or religion.

    Marvellous!

One simply must come to the conclusion that Marciano was The Greatest. As the all time Alpha Heavyweight, he is, by definition, the greatest head to head fighter of all time, the apex of this sport's development and realization. He is simply unbeatable.

Excellent post. Marciano was an animal, never beaten 49-0 :)

I was tongue-in-cheek serious. ;) I actually do rate Marciano highly, although I concede he'd have some serious difficulties when facing the XL versions of skilled HW's.

HW's are in general less skilled than lighter weights. And the reason for that is because there are proportionally much fewer HWs than lighter weights

Liston fought 8 or so rounds with a broken jaw.

He made what he had work... against a very narrow spectrum of opponents in a very limited window of time.

The Lewiston fight was just a sham on all levels. A confused and incompetent Walcott, the NOI, threats from all sides, suspicious wagering... A modern heavyweight championship fight held in a high school gym? OK.

Or that time-honored chestnut we always see."49-0. 'Nuff said."

Its baffling isnt it? I asked one poster how he would beat Lewis and he said he had the advantage of being so short and he "would find a way"!
