1.FRANK MIR Did Frank take Carwin too lightly, and can he come back from this loss? I think he looked relaxed and confident to the point of complacent in the fight. He didn't even put up any real resistance when Carwin was mauling him, and by the time Carwin had smashed in the first uppercut it was too late for Frank to get his act together. I think he underestimated Carwin's power. For me, Mir has now slid below Dos Santos and Velasquez in the pecking order. Those two should be next on the list for title fights after Lesnar-Carwin, so Frank will probably be looking at a long road back. I'd like to see him matched with Gabriel Gonzaga next in a meeting of fighters at the crossroads. 2.BROCK LESNAR Is Brock's stand-up game and chin good enough to avoid being knocked out by Carwin? Is Brock going to have a comeback tune-up once he is ready, or is he going straight back in at the deep end vs Carwin? 3.CAIN VELASQUEZ and JUNIOR DOS SANTOS Are these two big enough to compete with guys like Lesnar and Carwin? 4.SHANE CARWIN How good is he? Is he all brawn and power, or is there more to this guy?
The guy has been out for a long time now, and he doesn't exactly have a lot of MMA experience to draw on when he eventually does make his comeback. I don't think it would be a ***** move at all if he did have a tune-up before Carwin.
Good post!! 1. I do not believe that Mir took Carwin too lightly! Shane had ko'd every single previous opponent! If anyone takes a guy like that lightly, they want to get out of the sport, because their brain must be damaged!! Frank Mir vs Gabriel Gonzaga would be a decent fight, but I would prefer to see Frank fight the loser of Velasquez-Dos Santos!! 2. I do not believe that Brock's stand-up is up to much and as for his chin, I am unsure of it's "Durability" but I truly believe that Lesnar is not as durable as Carwin (Lesnar was obviously distracted by the small cut Randy inflicted upon him ffs). Brock probably should have a "Comeback tune up" but who is he going to fight? Where is he (And the UFC) going to find a durable opponent who offers little risk? Especially one who is currently under contract with the UFC? I believe that though Brock should have a "Tune up," he will not! 3. IMO Velasquez and Dos Santos (Both of whom are extremely talented fighters) are simply not big enough to compete with the "Super-heavies"!! Lesnar and Carwin both "Cut" to 265, which means that they are probably 280+ come fight night!! That is a huge size difference!! Now, if both Lesnar and Carwin were fat dummies then that would not make a difference, but both are very athletic (For their size) and their obvious wrestling skill is amplified by their size and athleticism. Plus, both have good right hands on them (And Carwin in particular has tremendous power in both hands and does not need a lot of room to inflict serious damage on his opponents) and we have seen both Dos Santos and Velasquez rocked on more than one occasion. Never say never, but it would take a mighty effort from either man (Cain/Junior) to beat Lesnar or Carwin!! 4. How good is Shane Carwin? To be honest I do not know!! What I do know is that he is a huge man who is very athletic, with excellent wrestling!! His control of Mir (a world class grappler) was almost Couture-like!! Carwin possesses devastating power in both hands, and needs very little space in which to be effective (Those left uppercuts, which are not his "Primary weapon" were truly destructive, and he dropped a 260lb world class, experienced, mma fighter with just a few of them!! Very impressive)! Carwin has also shown that he can take a good hit and not only survive it, but remain calm and maintain his focus, another admirable trait for a "Super heavy"!! Of course Carwin is limited (We aint ever likely to see a head-kick from him but so what?) but I honestly expect him to improve further and with all that he has shown thus far, he would be a serious opponent for any mma fighter on Earth (Of course, being a serious opponent does not mean that he beats everyone).
