When Taylor had Pavlik hurt in round 2, and it as being replayed in slow motion... Taylor was throwing elbows!

    Did anyone else catch this?

He didn't stick it out there like Floyd does, he was actually just throwing hooks, except his arm was bent and his elbow was out there, NOT his fist!

When he's throwing big hooks trying to finish Pavlik off, left right left right back and forth, every now and then he throws one with his arm bent, and his elbow sticking out.

Its not quite like how a Thai fighter throws them, but it was similiar.

Has anyone seen Taylor do this before?

I've only seen Taylor's fights with Hopkins, Cuevas, Spinks, Ouma, and Pavlik. The Pavlik fight was the only one I've seen him do this in, but with a knockout record like his (Before Hopkins that is!), I presume he's been in some real furious exchanges with fighters. Anyone else seen him do this?

    And another Taylor question:

Why does Taylor keep his hands in the position that fighters like Floyd and James Toney do? Floyd and Toney do it so they can use the shoulder roll so they can avoid punches then counter with the right hand... but Taylor sqaures off with opponents and tries to slug... but with his hand still down like that. I didnt' box for very long, and I'm not an expert. So I put it to the people of ESB:

Why the **** does he do that?

Watch closely. Pavlik was not hurt until AFTER a blatant elbow caught him upside the head. That's when Pavlik dropped his hands and stuck out his chin; like he was telling Taylor "**** You." That's when Pavlik got hurt; after the elbow and dropping his hands and sticking his chin out.

because it helps countering. i know what you mean though it doesn't suite his limited defensive abillities.

Could you elaborate on this? I just don't see how this gives you an advantage if you're squared off against your opponent.

Stop making excuses he got hurt by Taylor, and Taylor has the capacity to KO him as he was on rubbery legs all over the ring, but he came to himself like a pro and got the KO.

The shot that hurt pavlik was a clean punch. Pavlik blocked the elbow.

your opponent sees your open face and tries to throw a punch at it, thus leaving him open for a counter. it works especially good if you completely avoid the punch being thrown because the opponents punch is not landing on anything thus further discouragin the fighter or tiring him out even quicker. roy jones jr, mayweather, toney are very good at doing this because they can slip punches so well. ali was very good at it because he was so fast and his footwork was so good.

unfortunately taylor does not possess these great defensive abilities that so many atg's had.

taylor has the boxing IQ of a ******.

seriously even before the hopkins fight i was wondering why he did some of the things he does like carrying the left hand around his nuts

 well pavlik taught him a lesson in fundamentals, and taylor taught pavlik a lesson in arrogance

will be looking forward to the rematch

    pavlik by ko again
