1. Warming up, how do you find a balance between getting warm, and not wasting energy/wearing yourself out before the fight? What's a good amount of time to take warming up? How do you do it? 2. When I boxed last night, it was a short fight, 3 rounds, 1 minute each. When the ring girl tried to give me water I turned it down. I felt that in such a short fight dehydration was not an issue. Should I have drank? I thought that by the time the water hit my system the fight would be over anyway. Thoughts?
1. You need to be warm before a fight. At least 15 mins of fat burning heart rate should get you sweaty. Remember you are working on anaerobic respiration, so there is not much chance of you wasting any energy during the warm up. I'm a big heavy weight so i will spend up to 30 mins warming up at a low heart rate. 2. You are correct that you don't need to drink water. However, take a mouth full of water and swirl it around in your mouth then spit it out. It will resolve any dry/sticky moth issues and psycologicaly it feels good.
The warming up depends on you I let my kid warm up lightley for about 10-20 mins nothing crazy just enough to get him going. Never turn down water when its offered to you not just for dehydration purposes but becuase its also pretty ****ing hot with that head gear on.
1. I box 3 rounds with 2 minutes and i warm up about 1/2 hour to get myself going so im going into the ring real ready as i am a very slowstarter. 2. Personal choice IMO
1. Depends, how long does it normally take you to get warm for sparring for instance. In my case that takes at least 15 minutes, sometimes up to 30 minutes. If you are well trained that will not leave you void of energy. 2. You won't need it for those three minutes, but rinsing the mouth is nice.
regular warm up but no point hammering out the pads, i do gymnastics stuff and dynamic stretches for around ten minutes to thoroughly warm up each and every joint in your body, this releases tension and really looses you up and avoids you being too stiff in the ring using up energy take a mouthful of water swirl it around then spit most of it out then i swallow a tiny bit just to add moisture to my throat
About 30 mins. You might not need that physically but it's always good to have a good amount of time to be mentally ready. When you don't give yourself long enough to anticipate that you'll be going into the ring soon, it becomes a bit of a shock once you get in there and takes you the first round to get going. I'd say best thing is to do some shadow boxing, nice and light just to loosen up and pracitse what moves you want to do then do some skipping with bursts of fast, high knees then go slow for for intervals to get your heart rate up and loosen up. Then have a wee stretch. Then do some pad work for about 3 minutes to get your heart rate right up. Then go and get gloved up and hit that guy like a Tijuana hooker.
Its so hard to hit the perfect time for using the bathroom for a fight I no this first hand. My last 2 competitions I screwed up on that most recently was a JiuJitsu tournament inbetween my first and secound match I tried to take a quick **** and I remember me trying to quickly whipe my ass when the officals where screaming my name. Before that was my only MMA bout I had just had my gloves taped and had like 30 minutes before my fight and I had some movement down low so im like **** it I gotta try so I enter the public restroom with MMA gloves on and do my best to **** and whipe my ass which was quite difficult. In 2 of my amateur boxing bouts I intentionally pissed myself shortly before my bouts because I couldnt hold it I just had some water poured on my shirt to make it look like it was all water.
Get changed two bouts before my own ( what i used to do ) Walk about in a 5m sq area, wee dance then pads for a cpl mins. Didnt wanna be too loose, then losing my zing/snap.
I alway get dressed when the first bout starts even if im last and have my hads wrapped and boots on. Make sure to be warmed up 2 fights before my own just incase the one before mine ends early
I personally like to take a short nap, then warm up a bit, not even thinking about the fight. Then when I'm walking towards the ring I think about how bad I'm about to hurt this kid.
