    - Why is Pacquiao favorite against the best 140lb fighter in the world considering he has never fought at the weight before?

It seems to me that Pacquiao is the favorite going into this fight, at least according to the guys at ESB. Personally, I'm skeptical on how Pacquiao deals with the size, power, and pressure of a Ricky Hatton, who is still the best Junior Welterweight in the world. I make Hatton the slight favourite because 140lb is his domain, and has a style to offset Pacquiao's speed.

    - If Hatton wins decisively, where is he in the p4p top 10, and who replaces Pacquiao as the best fighter in the world?

I would place Hatton in the top 5, and Juan Manuel Marquez would replace him as the best P4P fighter in the world.

    - One sided fights - can they ever be great?

Mayorga/Trinidad and Arguello/Pryor II come to mind.

    - On a scale of 1-10, how much do you love Boxing and why?

    9. It would be a 10 if I had actually seen a fight live, and I think I like it because the amount of drama that can be generated into a fight. Also, the history and the personalities make for really compulsive viewing. Other than that, I guess I just like to see violence.

    - Barrera is in the process of a comeback. Is his best chance at a 135lb title against Campbell?

I would say so. Campbell is a great guy, but I don't think he's ever been a great fighter. However, with Barrera at a higher weight and with his lay off, it will take a huge effort for him to overcome Nate.

    - In the event Barrera is successful, how does it effect his overall legacy?

It would seperate himself from Morales slightly, and solidify himself as perhaps in the top 5 Mexican fighters of all time. The first ever to win titles in 4 weight divisions. An achievement.

    - Do you think Larry Merchant was awesome?

I'm a fan. I don't like commentators who constantly talk, and not only did Larry pick his shots, but when he did talk, it's usually hilarious.

    - Who is the next P4P number one, in your opinion?

    Juan Manuel Marquez.

    - What fights have literally sent you to sleep?

Wladimir vs Ibragimov and Spinks vs Taylor

    - What fight are you most looking forward to in 2009?

As a Barrera fan, it goes without saying that I want him to suceed. Also, all of Margarito's fight and Mijares comeback fight. I hope they can both solidify themselves as top fighters in the sport. I will be a neutral in Arce vs Darchinyan and Angulo vs Mayorga. Going to be great fights, those two.

The whooping he handed out to DLH I guess, but yes, people arn't taking Hatton as a legit threat.

    4 or 5 for me

yeah, I like the odd beat down.

probably a 7 from me, sure I love the big fights, but I don't go to grass routes to much and I love boxing in real life as a fitness hobby, so 7's fair.

MAB should stay retired.. But i agree, probably yes.

His legacy is sealed and this can only reinforce him IMO, it does little to hurt it if he loses either.

    indifferant, I usually mute fights.

    Recently, Holy, Valu

    Hatton Pac....

    Lot of questions there !

    1. Pacquiao is a much better fighter than Hatton. I don't think Hatton has the footwork, combinations or speed to corner Pacquiao and make him fight a dirty inside fight. Also, Hatton's defence is not good enough to prevent Pacman from landing when he lunges in and out, and Pac has adjusted well to the higher weights so far so he can make Hatton respect his power... Pac is just too light on his feet for a fighter like Hatton. For me, the style that bothers Pac is the intelligent fighter who is can also be light on his feet, who can see punches coming, and can take a quick bounce backwards when Pac lunges in, catch punches with the gloves and retaliate in combinations or with accurate punches, or who can time Pac's headmovement and try to catch him when he's most out of position.

    2. If Hatton wins decisively as in a clear decision, 8 to 4 or more, or winning on cards and then a knockout, then I would put Hatton maybe behind Marquez, Calzaghe, and Hopkins, at #4. Pacquiao would drop to about #8 behind Margarito, Vasquez, and Cotto.

    3. I love 1 sided fights sometimes. 2 that come to mind are Hopkins vs Tito, a Masterclass. Pac vs ODLH is another fight I love just for the brilliance shown and the shock and awe it created.

    4. From 1 to 10 I love boxing about 10 which is more than any other sport. Seriously you take a fight like Marquez vs Vasquez III, the sheer pleasure of watching that fight unfold live. Unbelievable. And you take a fight like Pacquiao vs JMM II. The skills and ability of the athletes in that fight simply astound me. I will gladly admit that I've watched that entire fight in slowmotion with every exchange at 1/4 speed or slower.

I love boxing because it is the be all and end all of every sport. Other sports can help determine who is faster, stronger, more agile, smarter, has the better tactic, trained harder, has better endurance, more mental toughness, a stronger will, better resistance to pain, more fearless, etc. But no sport combines every aspect of an athelete and measures it up to his opponent like boxing. In boxing, you take the ability you have and you leave it all on the line against someone who is doing the same. Your life can depend on it. Its "Sport" in its rawest form, every aspect of it. nothing else comes close. And the fact that its fists only and that they wear padded gloves takes away a big part of the "luck" aspect. My big beef with MMA is that there are so many different ways to win, so many things to be careful of, so many things that may work one time but not another, etc. that at the end of the day there very well may be a better fighter or worse fighter but it almost feels like you're watching poker sometimes. That the underdog always has a good chance of hitting a card on the river.

    5. His best chance is definately against Campbell because Campbell is the only one who has a title at 135. Pacquiao is basically vacating his belt and Campbell has the other 3. I think Campbell beats Barrera at this point in a sloppy decision. Prime for prime Barrera is twice the fighter Campbell is, obviously.

    6. If Barrera is succesful then it obviously helps his legacy which is imo already cast in stone. The man is a legend. People forget how amazing he was when he was young, so him accomplishing something when he's old would be a nice reminder. Unfortunately i don't think he has it in him.

    7. I love Merchant and I see in him that he's a true fan of the sport and his intentions are pure but he does 2 things that **** me off:

First of all he complains when he thinks a fight is boring. **** you Larry, if you think the fight is boring thats too bad for you but maybe someone else is enjoying it. Sometimes I'll be watching a technical fight with my friend that I find is interesting and telling him how a fighter did a subtle move or is trying a different tactic or something and then Larry comes out and says "Well this is putting me to sleep". I don't wanna hear that ****.

Second, sometimes his questions are disrespectful to the fighter. I understand you wanna get the tough questions out there but do it in a respectful manner that shows that you appreciate the athlete, but that you have to push him to answer some tough questions. Merchant can really be mean to a fighter in some of these interviews. Its not right. The athletes deserve respect. Its a sport so be sportsmanlike.

    8. Next p4p #1? I have no idea. really. I think Pac keeps it till 2010 and maybe Cotto if he beats Margarito and then pulls off another 2 big wins in the next 6-8 months? Maybe some up and comer like JuanMa if Pac lasts longer? Maybe Nonito if he dominates both Montiel and Darchinyan? If Pac loses then its Marquez? Maybe Dawson beats Calzaghe and Kessler?

    tbh I have no clue.

    9. A ton of fights have literally sent me to sleep. I watch alot of fights when I'm about to go to sleep actually. The fight thats bored me the most was Holyfield vs Valuev. Usually i am never bored when watching a fight live, but I changed the channel on that one.

    10. Margarito vs PW rematch.

Because he recently looked sensational at 147lbs against a big name. That fight is still fresh in peoples' minds, and Pac shocked everyone by how strong, fast and ultimately dominant he was. Now, this is obviously not enough evidence to legitimize Pac being the favourite, but it does explain why he is with many people.

P4P number 5 behind JMM, Pac, Joe Cal and B-hop, though I wouldn't argue with anyone who kept him at 6 behind Izzy Vasquez.

Yes, they can. In the way you've mentioned, and also in another way - as in great exhibitions of skill. I personally would call a fight like Duran-deJesus or Whitaker-Haugen or *insert virtuoso performance by an ATG* a great fight because it is great to watch a great in action! Just as enjoyable as a Gatti-Ward, but just in a very different way.

I want to give myself a 10, but it has to be a 9. Boxing is my main source of pleasure in life after sex. But I could actually rationalize a score of 8. I lose one point because I am not the kind of guy who would watch any old boxing simply because it's boxing. I'm not too interested in domestic undercards or regional title bouts, I may be a bit of an elitist, but I'm only really interested in world title level bouts. I could also lose another point and drop to an 8, because I don't have a compulsive need to learn everything I can about every major fighter ever. You may say that isn't what makes a fan a fan, but I must admit to feeling a little inferior when I read two guys in the Classic arguing over whether Victor Galindez's use of the shoulder-roll was better in his pre-prime days or his shot days etc (I don't even know if Galindez ever utilized a roll, I was just trying to think of an obscure example - you know what I mean!)

Absolutely. I don't see the fascination with Campbell at all. One performance vs Diaz doesn't make him a great fighter - I'd go so far as to say he is a weak champion. Guzman would have beat him, and someone else will very soon. Pac or JMM would murder him, and I think if Barrera fights like he did v JMM, he would have a fighting chance v Campbell.

For me, it would improve his legacy ENORMOUSLY. It would set him clearly above Morales, and also Marquez (at this stage, but I expect Marquez to achieve some more great things of his own before he hangs them up). To come back when seemingly shot (or close to it), and make history, and beat a champion significantly bigger and stronger than him naturally, well, that would be a stunning achievement for MAB. I would love it if he pulled it off, an unfairly maligned fighter IMO, a true champion, brilliant.

Of course he was! Stone-cold genius IMO.

I think Manny Pacquiao is in for a pretty long reign. JMM will probably retire before him, so I expect JMM to never reach the top spot, as Pac has the profile to keep getting bigger fights, and the ever-improving abilities which will see him keep winning. So, the next top dog will probably be in a couple of years time, so I expect it to be a relatively young fighter now. I have a sneaky feeling it could be someone like Chad Dawson, because he should be able to unify his division, and tempt big names from 168 up, and if Adamek can make the jump to cruiser, surely Dawson can too eventually? He has the size and the speed. I say Dawson takes over in 2 or 3 years, though Paul Williams ad Juan Manuel Lopez could be up there by then as well.

Wlad v Ibragimov, Wlad v Thompson, Wlad v Rahman. IMO, he is the most boring fighter on the planet.

Also, Calzaghe v Jones. After the first round was over, despite Jones landing the odd snappy shot, it was painfully obvious that Calzaghe was right to handpick Jones for a big money low risk easy night. If the guy could punch even as hard as someone like Tarver or Johnson, it would've been over by the middle rounds, but because he hits like a three-year girl trying to swat a fly, we had to endure round after round of Jones blinking through the blood trying to remember how to fight, and Calzaghe tastelessly showboating (and looking like a crass clumsy dick while doing so). Awful awful spectacle. No drama, no thrills, just a grinding wait for the final bell.

Pac-Hatton is the Fight of the Year, obviously. After that, I cannot wait for JMM-Diaz, any Margarito fights, Williams-Winky, Haye v a Klitschko, any big fight involving Valero or JuanMa Lopez.

Forget Hatton.. At 140, Kendall Holt would murder Pacman.. I mean murder. things would get x rated.

Give Victor Ortiz some time to develope and he'd be beating pac's ass from pillar to post.

Don't even get started with Timothy Bradley.. Bradley would beat pac's ass like a red heated step child.

Lamont Peterson would also take pacman to school just like Marquez did. It would be a career ender.

1.Because he just looked like a small God against a 147 lber who he should have lost bad normally.
2.Top 6-7 I guess.JMM,Calzaghe,Hopkins, pacquiao and Vazquez and Williams can be before him.
3.Yes,beatdowns(Mayorga vs Trinidad) or masterclasses(Hopkins vs Pavlik)
4.About a 8 or 9 I guess cuz I like most sports. The violence os great aswell as skill and I usually like everything from the big PPVs to any little ballroom brawl.
5.Against Campbell as you say but Campbell is so inconsistent that he might just lose to Funeka and Barrera might have a new opponent.
6.Well like you say better than Morales(which I think he already is) and improve his legacy already, would rank him higher as an ATG.
7.Merchant was and is awesome but Kellerman is also growing on me.
8.Cotto,Williams,Vazquez(if he comes back good), etc
9.Spinks vs Taylor,Wlad vs Inragimov, usually Wlad sends me to sleep as he is very boring.Valuev has his touches here too.
10.Bute vs Andrade II,Diaconu vs Johnson,Katsidis vs Ramirez,Vic vs Arce etc

Pacman is listed as a favorite for 2 reasons - 1. He destroyed Oscar at 147 pounds when many people thought he could never fight above 135. 2. Hatton was KO'd by Mayweather and is considered slower and not as intense as Pacman.

I hope you don't perceive me to be a hater, but I think Pacquiao is made the favorite because a lot of people refuse to accept or believe that Oscar was physically inept. I've seldom seen Oscar look so weak and be so inactive in the Boxing ring. I give Pacquiao his credit for the victory, but this should play as no indication on how he deals with Hatton.

Not much emphasis is made on the weight in this bout, but in the event that Pacquiao loses, you can bet your ass that it'll be the excuse.

    I agree. :good

All of Marco's peak fights are big favourites of mine. I'm talking about his destruction of Salud and Sanchez. I enjoy watching Barrera's cold gaze whilst he patiently stalks Kevin Kelley, with everybody knowing what is going to happen one he starts letting his hands go.

:good I'm not obsessive like a lot of members on the forum, but I don't think I could live without Boxing now that I've discovered it.

:good This is the way I see things. Campbell has experianced a lot of losses in his career, twice against Peden, a fighter Barrera coasted for 12 one-sided rounds. This doesn't neccesarily mean Marco wins, especially since Marco is past it and way above his best weight, but Campbell is not a world beater.

I couldn't imagine holding Barrera in higher regard than I do now, but I would say becoming the first Mexican to win titles in 4 weight classes, and under the circumstances, would be perhaps his greatest ever achievement. Considering everything Barrera has achieved, that is a big statment. I just really hope he does it, but I'm under no illusions of his chances. He is effectively shot, although he did give fairly good accounts of himself in his last two fights, effectively against P4P number 1 and 2.

    :good

I disagree. I don't think Manny Pacquiao is in for a long reign. He either dominates his next two fights and decides to retire, or he loses and effectively loses his position as the best fighter in the world. In my opinion, the best fighter in the world is Marquez, however you cannot dispute what Manny did last time out against Oscar. Albeit Oscar was having some serious issues, physically, but Pacquiao did the job. I think Marquez will be the next P4P champion after Hatton narrowly defeats Pacquiao at 140. I can't make Manny a favourite in a division he's never fought in. I don't even know how his punch resistance is above 130, let alone 135.

    Sad nights for Boxing.

I really wanted the Hatton fight to be stages in UK so that I could go watch it with my Dad. Shame. I'll be watching it live on PPV, hopefully my Dad is man enough to stay up and watch it with me. He thinks I'm crazy staying up to 3-5am in the morning, sometimes to watch borefests, but if it's Boxing, I love it. I would never miss a fight.

  15. I make Hatton-Paq a 50/50 fight:deal i give Hatton an edge if they fight in the UK, yea Paq looked good against Oscar, but Oscar looked pitiful, and didn't even want to fight:-( and for being only 35 fought like he was 44, Paq barely got by Marquez, with help from the suits at ringside, and lost to Erik Morales so he ISN'T superman:-(
Hatton only lost once to a p4p no 1 guy, so it's a toss up..
