Yeah I called out somebody on this the other week. Some of the times people post are just laughable. They take the exaggeration too far and get caught out. Guy saying a 16 year old he knew who barely trained ran a 800m time that was quicker than the silver medal winner at the lastest Under 21 Olympics. Lulz.
He's still not as fast as Mr V.I.P though, i can't remember the times he said but he was running 6mile in 30 minutes or something crazy
lol works out at 2hrs 9 for the marathon if he keeps up that pace. world record for men is 2 hrs 3 minutes.
Didnt say He didnt train said He didnt run much, just 4 mile a week. The Kid was in the Elite squad. He wasnt a Boxer He was an Athlete who I was working with. But there seems to be some good runners in Boxing, as Ive found over the years. So it really doesnt surprise me some of the times that are talked. Probably its because Boxers have a very good pain threshold.
Plus when on the track Daley Thompson would do 200 metre shuttles with my 6 lads, He always finnished 4th.
What's your point? He was a learning martial artist, at a time when most MA's were fat men teaching kata's, he was discovering/learning mma and learning that physical, endurance, stamina side of things were just as important. I read his book and he specifically stated that any athlete looking to compete should get their stamina level up to the point that they should at least be able to run 2 miles in 12 minutes. A boxer would be such athlete, and I agree with him. I've done 6min mile, never done 12min 2 miles but then again, never felt that fit either..
It's an interesting viewpoint, but is he correct? What would be the optimal way of training for high intensity 2 or 3 minute rounds? Has anyone here tried Tabata intervals? I have to admit I've tried and failed. At least failed to do them absolutely properly.
Yeah I've tried Tabata. I think Bruce has a point, regardless how you train, I think at the base of your stamina, you should be able to run 2 miles in 12 minutes for a combat sport. Not saying thats all you need, but its a good base to go from. Bare in mind his research was 40 years ago, there was slightly different viewpoints on training back then too. That article on Tabata training is quite interesting, anaerobic stamina increasing by 30% on tried athletes over 6 weeks training.
those times are not completely unreasonable, im in the army and i can run 2 miles in 14 mins, a 6:30 min mile and there are ppl in the army who are faster than that.
Im running 2.5 miles 80% uphill in 23 mins and it never gets easier! and im training 6 days a week for the last 3 months and im very fit as i have never lost my fitness over the years. But 2.7 in 16mins is ****ing crazy! im ex forces and used to know alot of guys who run these sprints and i dont know any one who can do that unless its all down hill.
Who gives a ****. I have my Ipod and the Nike+ running kit so my times are legit. But even if I ran a 5 minute mile pace what would that accomplish on a boxing training forum?
