Some say the blueprint to beating Tyson was fighting like Tillis did. Would Ali have beaten Tyson?

I am not being disrespectful to Tyson fans, but Ali was much better than Tillis. Tillis idol happens to be Ali and I was just wondering, do any of you think he was trying to copy Ali? What would happen if Ali is the one using his great movement , accurate jab and showing very good reflexes? I know the dangers Tyson brings, but did this fight have any of you believe Ali would beat Tyson or at least stand an excellent chance? I am not sure if anyone has posted about this, but just wanted to bring it up.

I always have thought Ali would defeat Tyson. Ali has all necessary advantages required, along with the heart, skill set and ring knowledge to carry it out.

yes but it would be a fight to match foreman and frazier.

my thought is out of three, tyson takes 1.

Ali's my favourite fighter but I think particularly early on he's a real threat to Ali, the main reason being Tyson's hand speed. Ali always had a big edge in this department over his opponents but that edge would be reduced against Tyson, and if Tyson did manage to get inside the Ali jab I think he was nimble enough of feet to unload a fast combination or two on Ali if only occasionally. The equally fast handed Patterson managed to tag Ali quite a bit in their second fight and although Floyd hit hard I think Iron Mike would pose Ali a lot more danger potentially even being knocked out.
The trouble with Tyson though he had virtually no inside game and after unloading he would be tied up and nullified as Ali's ring smarts and savvy took over, as Tyson's intensity dropped as it tended to do after 4 or 5 rounds.
He would be eating the Ali jab all night and I'd expect Ali to pull away down the stretch and win a UD or the referee having to rescue a demoralised and battered Tyson late on.

Easily. A man spanking a belligerent boy.
By 4th round, angry, petulant boy is crying and takes gloves leaves ring and runs home.
Mugging and raping an old lady on the way.

Tyson would have likely lost the fight before the first bell, too mentally fragile to cope with The Greatest's mind games.

And even if Tyson had of believed he could win after few rounds of Ali's jab and counters and he would of quit just like Holyfield made him quit.

Yes fighting is 80% mental and in boxing it starts waaay before they actually get in the ring.

If tyson was just an emotionless super soldier he could beat anybody, but hes an emotional wreck and not mentally mature going up against one of the mentally toughest fighters ever. It would still be a hell of a fight but more often than not, Alis psychological games would give him a huge edge.

I could see Ali teasing his voice, his gapped teeth, making fun of his divorce or drug abuse, hell he might even pretend like hes afraid of tyson and praise his power to trick him into trying to KO Ali in the first few rounds to tire him out. There are dozens of ways Ali could get under his skin and theyd all work like a charm.

Some say the blueprint to beating ali was fighting like Henry Cooper. Could Tyson beat Ali?

The blueprint for beating Ali is on the shirt I am wearing as I write these words. It has Ali on his ass as Smokin' Joe Frazier walks away.:) :) :) :)

Yeah well i would have said joe frazier but i picked cooper because ali was just as green when cooper put him down as tyson was when he fought tillis.

Douglas' performance in tokyo is much closer to what i would call a blueprint to beat tyson than tillis. Tyson was just too green and not agressive and confident enough against tillis.
Tyson did everything he could and fought his heart out against douglas and it just wasnt enough and he took a terrible beating. Regardless of how well he trained for either fight, the douglas fight was much more decisive and conclusive and tyson would have had a hard time with that douglas even on his best night.

I think the main point of the thread was that Tillis wasnt half the boxer Ali was and gave Tyson all sorts of trouble.

The same goes for Douglas, who boxed circles around Tyson and KOed him.

As for Tyson being "green" when he fought Tillis, he had 19 fights and took the title from Berbick 6 months later. He became undisputed the following year. So did he go from white belt to grandmaster in under a year?

Tyson won 8 rounds and self admitted he could have went for a knockout. That should be pretty obvious considering he never followed up after he knocked Tillis down.

The Tyson that went in on Holmes and Spinks was another animal.

Could Ali defeat a 1986 Tyson? Maybe....but probably not ....not a Tyson with at least 25 fights under him.

Gauging Tyson in 19 fights and assuming that's his best is as unrealistic as it gets.........

If we did that Ali was SAVED by the bell in his 19th fight to no one who would have dared entered the ring with Tyson.

    some people know s h i t about tyson
we talk prime vs prime, not a tyson after the divorce just like about the prime ali, not that one stupid boy who get his ass kicked by a today-supermiddleweight henry cooper and have a vey close fight with doug jones.
Anyway, Tillis was damn good, he would give prime ali/clay a damn hard fight

Wasn't that fight the first time Tyson truly stepped up against an experienced opponent?

Apparently Tillis came in the best shape of his life that night.

Tyson apparently became better against boxing movers as his subsequent fights showed.
