Some say the blueprint to beating Tyson was fighting like Tillis did. Would Ali have beaten Tyson?

Tyson has to take Ali out by the first 4 rounds. After that i heavily favor Ali.

He was not more skilled than Liston. I'd pick all of them to beat Tyson (though I believe he's overall better than Shavers).

Tillis went the distance with Tyson. Don't see a reason why Ali wouldn't be able to do the same, or worse.

And Henry Cooper knocked Ali on his azz with Dundee reviving Ali between rounds with smelling salts. I'm pretty sure Tyson would land a left hook some time in the fight.

Unless Tyson's fighting a 1963 Ali, this bears no relevance.

I've always thought that Ali would beat Tyson but there's no question that Tyson would be a massive threat in the early rounds. Whilst there's no other heavyweight in history who had Tyson's combination of power and speed, there's also no other fighter who beat so many massive punchers as Ali. Tyson's power would not be the biggest factor as Ali had faced arguably bigger punchers in Liston and Foreman (and Shavers). Tyson's speed would be the distinct obstacle Ali would have to overcome. I can see Tyson catching Ali early and maybe even scoring a knockdown. Ali would have to use all his smarts to survive that but once he got Tyson into the middle rounds, he would start the pyschological warfare and Tyson would become less effective. After that, Ali would start to control the pace and score a later rounds KO.

I just don't believe the layoff helped and he was getting old. Yes, Holmes was still decent, but I had seen a flat footed boxer, not using his jab like he use to. You could argue that he had just declined over the years, Whatever people believe it's up to them, I think it was a bit of both. I did not see the skills of the past, but yes, he proved he could come back later, but he was not any better. I think Ali was a special boxer just like Tyson. The truth is Tyson never met someone as quick as Ali and it's the same the other way round. I would give Ali the slight edge with his movement and accurate jab, but he could not afford to go flat footed like Holmes did for the majority of the Tyson fight. Could Tyson stay disciplined with Ali taunts? He was very special at getting in his opponents heads lol Tyson was a crazy dude and Ali would be licking his lips of the thought of getting into his head. I totally agree that some people would not even contemplate Ali losing to Tyson, I think Tyson has a chance against anyone h2h in heavyweight history.

'86 Tillis wasn't nearly as good as prime Ali

And the Tyson that beat Tillis wasn't quite peak yet.

I'd say Ali would outpoint Tyson.

It wouldn't be easy. Ali would have trouble getting Tyson to respect his power.

But Ali has the chin to take Tyson's power, and even if dropped he has the recupertive powers to recover. In addition, he has the movement, hand speed, ring generalship and overall smarts to frustrate him.

    Ali by UD.

I think Tyson would suprise Ali early with his speed and boxing skills. I would expect to see Ali on the canvas in the first 4 rounds. Mike was explosive especially early. Ali would climb off the canvas and adjust. Probably tying up Tyson and frustrating him before he started to pepper him in the mid rounds.

    Ali by late stoppage.

Thats not what Holmes said in the interview during the Biggs fight where he boasted that the rest had been beneficial for his body and that he noticed so many flaws in Tyson's game which he was going to exploit. Let's not kid ourselves, while that wasn't the best version of Holmes but was not a bad version of Holmes at all which was proved by his performances in the 90's and Tyson was the only guy to knock Larry out.

What else would Holmes say? He also said Tyson wouldn't beat Norton or Shavers. Maybe we will swallow that too?

Holmes was declining in 83, past it in 84 when beating Bonecrusher and a mere impostor of himself by the Spinks fights.

    These are the facts.
