I'm kind of surprised at the lack of respect / attention Brock gets now. I mean, I know you're only as good as your last fight in this game, but it wasn't so long ago that he was considered one of the best up-and-commers in the division. Now in this fight with Chambers, he's being looked at as if he's past it and on a career spiral. Even after Klitschko beat Brock he called him a future-champ. I can't find a damn betting line for his fight, but I'm curious to know how much of an underdog the bookies have him as. And just another two cents for you, why in the hell would Brock participate in this tourney anyway? People say Brock lacks passion and drive, but obviously he's insanely driven if he's willing to fight just for the chance to get back into the ring with Klitschko again considering what happened the first time. I wonder, if Brock pulls off two wins here, how the hell is HBO going to sell this fight? Interest in a Klitschko-Brock II has got to be almost zero with the public.
To me he has always been, and always will be a step below the elite. imo.. hes a good fighter, but somewhat of a gatekeeper in that, i think hes a test youd have to pass to get to a title... but i dont see him being good enough to be a champion. Decent overall fighter... well balanced, but just doesnt have enough of anything, including physical talent, to be a real force imo.
I dont think he beats many top fighters like Chagaev, brewster (though brewster maybe done at this point) peter, or even Sultan... let alone wlad or vitaly.. but fights i would like to see him against is a fight with mesi.... the two imo are in the same level though i hold mesi a little above, and would love to see the two fight eachother.
I was on the Brock express for a while and Im still hanging on the outside, Indian style. I know why people werent excited about Brock, there was nothing spectacular about him but his overall package impressed me and I saw something different in him. I wasnt at all suprised he lost to Wlad, I picked him to beat any other champ at the time and majority of the top 20 fighters around. But for all my faith and respect he is failing to deliver, he just isnt coming through. More cracks are appearing and he just doesnt seem that into boxing anymore. I just dont have the same confidence in him anymore. Hopefully he redeems himself against Chambers and Povetkin.
There was always something shaky about Brock IMO and I narrowed it down to his balance. He just always appears to be unsteady and I guess I let that influence my judgment about him. He's a good fighter no doubt but with guys like Wladimir, Chagaev, and Povetkin in the division he'll just end up being a FNF regular who appears on HBO or showtime here and there.
