We all know what roadwork is defined as in the boxing world since the beginning of time.

I'm sure dumb**** knows it too, he's just trying to cover up his self-ownage. Unless he does sprints and agility work on the road

Your probably right and I came on a bit hard with Dealt With.

When I did road work as a kid we mixed it up with sprints, running backwards and hill runs , and we always called it road work. It was always about the intensity not the distance.

We never did the road work on the road as we lived in a city and in the winter it was dangerous.

So we went to the track.

So we now call it track work?

    Running is road work period.

Also who gives a **** what you think , the best cardio on a fighter i have seen is Floyd and as he would say ' you dont know **** about running'

This only happens after about 25-30 miles a week. LONG DISTANCE running will weaken your legs. Going out for roadwork, for the mostpart, won't

Road work for boxing is a must in my eyes. I was always in great shape when i got in the ring and could throw punches from the start of the 1st round to the end of the 3rd at high intensity. I doubt i could do that if i didnt do my running although it could of just been a mental issue i ran 5 times a week

Pretty sure Holyfield's trainers were criticized for using dated methods, like running 20+ miles. Running 4 or 5 miles at like a 8 minute pace isn't bad at all. You are very light on your feet, it builds good muscle, good foundation. But yes interval training will help your V02 max, which is very important, but pretty advanced stuff. Paced run for 3 minutes, sprint for 1, repeat till you die.

I had used 'road work' to pretty much exclusively refer to longer distance running. If I told someone to get some roadwork in I would rather confused if I found them out the back doing sprint intervals and running backwards.

Either way, this is has become an irrelevant debate about semantics. The link to the Holyfield's training regime shows that he dropped the longer distance stuff, regardless of what word we use to describe it.

Can we honestly say that Holyfields Cardio was through the limiter? If Im not mistaken I remember him falling apart in Bowe III, also I dont know of any fighter who runs 20 plus mile splits.5 or 6 maximum at a quick pace.

The Hawk used to run backwards for a minimum of a mile, sometimes up to three. What would you call this? Also the road work I did was never more than 6 mile and I dont think this is consider a long distance by runners.

All I'm saying is I read that Holyfield used to train with 20+ mile jogs, and his trainers were criticized for it.

    You're**

Eh. I like roadwork. As people have said it might just be mental, but whatever works. I'm not good enough to have a world class trainer or expert, I just run after I workout. Feels good.

Staying on topic, Mike Tyson had Gonorrhea going into his fight with James Tillis. Always thought this was funny.

    Hamed never ran with Ingle.

I dont see what runnings adds, that sparring, shadow boxing, hitting the heavy/speed bag, skipping and hitting the mitts cant do.

Not to mention the calisthenics and weight training that are all done indoors.

Sprinting would be useful, but what long slow turgid runs add is beyond me.
