Now that he mentions it, there's a good chance it might. I have to look this one up. ...You went back and censored yourself in the thread title.
Come on now we need Lampley, he's the best cheerleader out there. He actually makes the dead one sound good. I kinda do wanna see someone punch Larry Merchant first though, after he says his usual off the wall ****
I had enough of him round about the Barrera-Marquez fight. I like both those fighters and it was a classic close rumble but, for the first two thirds of the fight, he was waxing lyrical about every punch Barrera landed and talking about random crap whenever Marquez was landing (just as frequently). If you'd only listened to his commentary without seeing the pictures you'd have been stunned at the result. I wasn't the only one who noticed, either. The unforgivable part of it was that it was bad for the show. By being hopelessly one-sided he was undervaluing the fight when he should have been professional enough to see what was happening and build on it. I think his calling is responsible for more "false controversy" than almost anything else in boxing today. It's like he's got a pre-ordained story and doesn't want to deviate from it unless he has absolutely no choice. It's clear that Kellerman and Merchant notice this tendency and try to correct it, but he often gives them the brush-off and gets back to calling (badly).
**** all the HBO telecasters. give roy jones the job so he'll stop getting knocked out. plus, the fights i've seen him call he's been very accurate.
Spot on. They never seem to agree with each other, and they're all usually wrong. (except Lederman) When Roy is there, he seems to always be right. They usually try to argue with him, but they shut up as soon as he becomes right.
