Ward is a better boxer with better skills, but I think that Calzaghe would have had the style to give him problems, counter-punchers never like to face high volume punchers with accuracy, you can defend some of the punches, but not all of them

Well, he pretty much fought in a division that was relatively weak. He had some problems beating the only guy with a pulse (kessler), but other than that nothing. He did what he had to do, and retired a little early imo. He was a really good fighter (I will always give him his dues), but just fought in an era where he could not showcase it. He gets KO'd by Ward, who fought with better opposition (Abraham/Froch/and Kessler) and shined more. And unlike Calzaghe, Ward dominated Bad Chad who also would have KO'd Calzaghe. We will never know, and is why these arguments go absolutely nowhere.

Like? Hopkins is the one who priced himself out in 2002 and doubled his demands to 6 Million after they had agreed to 3 and were ready to sign. Ottke, Collins wasn't Joe's who ducked.

i tried my hardest to stay out of this because it proves nothing. just a load of haters from the same country who can't give the man his credit that is due...

some of the most pathetic comments on this thread (they usually are when the Americans start posting in Calzaghe threads) that are completely beyond comprehension.

Joe is on the level of Ronald "winky" Wright?

the man that beat a past it Quarty
the man that beat a past it Trinidad who had lost his fire
the man that lost to Soliman but was given the decision
the man that scraped a win over the flat lined, and much smaller Mosley
the man that lost to Vargas, Vasquez and Simon
the man who lost to Taylor but got a gift draw

    that Ronald "winky" Wright

    :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

    that is all.

Hopkins still had stamina that was better than most in boxing. he was a freak. he still is a freak.

but what you fail to understand is, if Hopkins was prime when fighting Joe, is that Joe would also be prime. something he was years removed from when they did fight.

or are all fighters allowed to be in their prime, but Joe remains years past his?

    simple question.

if when in their prime it was Joe that wanted to fight Hopkins and Jones, but was refused by them... how do you come to the conclusion then that Joe was the one who waited for then to get old?

actually, wait, forget this ****. please continue with your fascinating boxing knowledge. no need to answer the question. it would only end up being a waste of time.

you're right, Joe did retire too early. he should have fought on until his 70's like all the other ATG. it's not like Joe was one of the few to retire undefeated and on top at an age where the vast majority are well and truly finished in the sport.

please allow me to read some more of your insightful boxing knowledge. :deal

the glass jaw of Calzaghe could never stand up to one of the sports biggest hitters in history. you are again, right.

Calzaghe is the best Super Middleweight on paper, but Roy Jones would beat him H2H. Roy Jones is the only one I would pick to beat him at the weight though.

Lost a lot of his prime fighting questionable opponents and injuries were continual problem for him.

Its a shame the Svenn Ottke fight didnt happen, in super middleweight terms it wouldve been a great win, but you cant make a person fight you.

Kessler, LAcy, Eubank, Hopkins are fantastic wins, definite HOF.

He was a slapper who never fought any elite in their prime. Calzaghe was very boring in my eyes with all that ugly slapping ****.

This is the primary reason he is resented/underrated by many on this site...
