If you ask an American they will say he is top 5 all time at SMW, but defenitley not one or two.

If you ask a Brit he will say he is something along the lines of (Robinson+Hearns)^Leonard.

Maybe a Mexican or someone else can give us an unbiased, objective opinion.

In his defense, he retired in his mid-thirties and there were no huge money fights left... besides Froch of course.

He was a very good boxer (obviously not even fighting bums does one go 46-0 without being good), The only fighter who has a decent chance of beating him since he retired is Ward. Had awesome hand speed and output however his technique wasn't the greatest.

The only issue is the amount of time he spent fighting in the UK and 'avoiding' the best in the US, I tend to ignore this, most boxers are willing to get in the ring with anyone, it tends to be promotional issues from either end stopping fights (true details we will hardly ever know)

  4. He beat Hopkins after Hopkins said a white man could never beat him so for that I place him very high

:huh What?? When they were in prime Joe said he isnt looking for hard fights, that he knows his limitations and he is not chasing Roy Jones jr, and you spin it like Roy said something like this not Joe :dead

he was an elite with a lengthy title reign, loses marks for a soft division but he has beaten an atg so that helps a lot. great fighter imo but on the lower scale with someone like kostya tzyu

Maybe if he pretended he was Irish, then all the stupid whitey yanks who pretend they're Irish could've pretended they had some kind of connection with him.

He's like Rocky Marciano. He fought mostly bums up until he fought good opposition who were past their prime. People also overrate the undefeated record of both.

One of the most overrated fighters of all time . Legacy was pretty much a joke , his stoppages were jokes ( Most of shots were hitting nothin but air) The way he fought was a joke (Slappin his opponents) Featherfisted , His level of opposition was a joke .

    Thats about it.....

Oh BTW he did have great Stamina....

    You forgot "UNDEFEATED"!!!

Isn't that the way over-rated fighters finish their career?

Ask Mayweather how important it is to be undefeated. He manipulates every iota of a fight in his favor.

BECAUSE...the history books are what matters.

Calzaghe was willing to fight Hopkins, I give him that.. But I don't believe for one second that he truthfully "chased" Roy Jones or actually did anything to make the fight happen.

dude had the skills no question and could have done bigger things in his career but the one thing a fighter should never...EVER..utter is they don't like hard fights or challenges..which he did so i could never get behind him and be a fan
