But be careful about this last part here. ESB'ers from the past 2 months would have your head if they read this.

 

Except he slapped Hopkins all over the ring and beat him, after Hopkins said no white guy could ever beat him, so you forgot that

 

damn good fighter, deserved top 5 p4p ranking in his prime. a stylistic problem for anyone. there's a few guys who beat him at 168 but no one has an easy night with him other than prime Jones. horrid to watch and slapped and of course avoided the best fighters that came through his division but top 3 SMW of all time and a warrior when it came down to it, good chin, great speed and the rare ability to adapt mid round.

 

Historical Facts about Joseph Calzaghe, MBE:
-once threw a million punches during an amateur fight
-won the ABA title 3 years straight in 3 different divisions
-was known to knock a mother****er out until his hands were like **** it
-then he just slapped the **** out of everyone like they were his *****
-actually bent hopkins over and dry humped him in a fight
-hit jeff lacy like a thousand times and took possibly 2 punches
-held a title for over 10 years and 20 defenses while being excluded from unifications.
-unified the division (against lacy and kessler).
-consdered #2 p4p behind Pacquiao, who was on roids so calzaghe was really #1 nahmsayin'?
-moved up and became the champ at 175 by beating p4p #3 Hopkins.
-you know that scene in scarface with the pile of coke? he can do that and not die.
-no blueprint.

I think a lot of that has to do with his hardcore fans. Alot of them seem determined to trash the resumes of other smw fighters so fans of those fighters trash Calzaghe in return.

I never really rated him during his prime, but he really upped his skill level from Lacy onwards. I have no problem with him getting the win over Hopkins - which at the end of the day is his best win.
