Of course both guys fought a lot and boast giant resumes, I think the number of HOFers they beat probably holds more water than that though.

Harry Greb - 10 Kid Norfolk, Tunney, Levinsky, Gibbons, Dillon, Flowers, Rosenbloom, Slattery, Walker, Loughran

Sugar Ray Robinson- 9 - Armstrong, Lamotta, Fullmer, Kid Gavilan, Basilio, Graziano, Zivic,Turpin, Angott

Problem is, all we have to work with for Greb is his resume and some clips of him training. I believe H2H matchups make a large impact on where a fighter should be placed all time, and actual film supports the extent of a fighter's (and their comp's) abilities just as much as resume.

Edit: while I'm at it I guess I'll post some stuff I found

    His resume is better.

As far as H2H, its impossible to make a comparison without being unfair to one of them. You can't rate Robinson higher just because of how he looks on film because we really have no idea how impressive Greb was to watch. On the other hand, I don't think you can eliminate how impressive Robinson does look (which is better than anyone ever) from the discussion, unless you're someone who never takes H2H ability into account when rating fighters anyway.

I've got Robinson at #1, but Greb & Langford both have a serious case to rank above him, and it's not hard to see why.

  6. This is a classic topic, really. You can't expect most of the General-dwelling plebs to contribute.

Just make a list of the top 10 or top 20 middleweights of all time, and see how many of them Greb beat, and how many Ray beat.

You'll find Greb wins that easily.

Except the consensus is that Robinson was at his best during his WW years (which ironically little to no footage of that exists as well :nut)

    Robinson but it's close.

Also, IMO it was a more evolved sport by Robinson's time. It's hard to compare directly.
