No; he ran for a division that didn't have Sugar Ray Leonard in it.

Not a big deal, really. If Hearns had won he'd have likely stayed at 147 a bit longer- unless there was no chance of a Leonard rematch and no big fights at welter. Before the Curry-McCrory unification fight both were harping on about struggling to make the weight....yet it was the loser who decided it was too much of a struggle to make welter and would seek his fortune in a higher division. Curry/team were going on about it for about two years...before and after each defence...but he kept winning and it was something he could live with- until Honeyghan. Then it became just too much to make 147. Funny how that happened.

Funny, indeed. Once there's a new sheriff in town, the old sheriff finds another town.

Evidently you didn't read it, because the actual quote is the complete opposite of what you said, you daft ****.

I would expect any world class fighter to beat the f*ck out of a fighter in Leonard's position at the time. It makes a mockery of the sport for the supposed best fighter on the planet to be beaten by a washed up, blown up coke fiend - one that had a grand total of one fight in the previous five years.

I didn't ask for you half witted worthless opinion, just the facts.

Which are he went up to 154 and went on a 3 year unbeaten run.

It appears your boy then ran away from boxing, so that all his little fanboys like you could cry about a bad eye or some other such ****.

A tame ref, and a crooked judge and any required result can be achieved, as evidenced by Steele and the joke Guerra.

Do me a favor, Leonard haters, because that is what this boils down to right?. Give me ten guys who have beaten better fighters that Hearns, Duran, Hagler, and Benitez. Save us all of the name calling and drama.

Please, give this thread ten guys who beat better guys than Sugar Ray Leonard did. That's all. Then lets examine it. Simple.

All of the typed out curses (haha!), and internet rage, and name calling. Is that what we here for? Is that how you handle a hot debate? Of course not.

Now, if you please, take the time to give us your argument, and except it if no one agrees. No one here has agreed with my placement of Leonard at 6. I have not been convinced otherwise. You guys who disagree are not all that convincing. Nobody is learning anything from you other than that you resort to childishness to make a point about yourself, not about the topic at hand. That is for kid on the playground. This is not a playground. This is a place where adults come to have an enjoyable discussion about the sport we admire.

I will let it rest. I rarely see any of the guys who love boxing anymore around here. My guess is that a few of you have run them from this site with your stone ignorance. How do you expect to learn anything.? What will you do when it is only your type to talk with? Do you care to understand anything but your own words? That is what some of your debating styles add up to.

Seriously, think more, then type. Chess, not checkers.

    Sugar Ray Robinson.
    Archie Moore
    Carlos Monzon
    Henry Armstrong
    Evander Holyfield
    Willie Pep
    Ike Williams
    Roberto Duran
    Joe Louis
    Ali

All have superior resume's to Leonard. All have beaten better fighters ( and whilst they were both in their prime's and at their natural weights ) than Hearns and Benitez, which is what Leonard actually achieved, as opposed to what his more rabid fans would try to convince others he achieved.

You simply can NOT dismiss the FACT that he LOST to Duran before he beat him, neither can you discount the fact that Hagler was NOT in his prime, and the decision was controversial to say the least.

A good attempt by you at nut hugging, but another fail I'm afraid.

I'm happy to stick to just the facts. Leonard KTFO a Hearns who was not, by his own account, weight-drained, and who was, at the time, a welterweight. Them's the facts.

Hearns's further success after the fight only serves to emphasize the accomplishment of his conqueror.
