the answer is painfully obvious and something every fan of the sport should know: wear N tear

Ray Leonard had taken less punishment to his body in his 30+ fights than Floyd has in his 45 fights and at a 4 yrs older, 38

and Floyd is still winning whereas Leonard couldnt

I shouldnt have to mention Hagler's 66 fights

I'll do one even better than u; I'll go thru Leonards main bouts one by one and lets look for any unusual punishment he took

U cant compare SRL-Benitez with Manila.

Duran SRL 1 was a good scrap but nothing like Pryor-Arguello

and Sugar showed no ill effects from it in the rematch

    what's left?

All Hearns did was mostly peck at his eye. but what's once mouse under the eye?

    not exactly a career ender

Howard was too small to do any real damage

next was Hagler in his last fight, shot and hopelessly slow and couldnt dent whipped cream by then (the reason why Ray called on him)

Lalonde? please, that was just a joke and a black eye for the sport

rematch with Hearns when Tommy was another of the walking wounded. Nobody even gave Tommy a chance this time around

there is really no punishment of note unless u want to mention the one punch Duran landed that busted open Ray's eye

honestly, ONE PUNCH thru out an entire 12 rounds???

see m'man? aint no punishment to refer to!

there was no punishment, there were no layoffs, there were no weight issues, there were no cocaine issues, there was no calve issues, there was no divorce issues, there were no eye issues, and his career wasnt packed with fights like u trying to make it out to be

stop with excuses already- the man just couldnt handle speed!

Double agree !! I actually like all the banter between us... Good solid debate... But there are two on here that are in dire need of a good shrink... If you press them ,they come out with some vile garbage ,***ually inappropriate comments some really twisted stuff... And they think their knowledgeable and factual... pretty damn scary...

So do you think he was the same fighter of round the time of the Duran 1 and 2, Hearns and Kalule fights?

September 1981 against Hearns was the best of Ray's career. Absolutely superb.

that's not really a loaded question becuz I wasnt impressed with the performance in his rematch. I wasnt impressed with the Kalule fight and I SURE wasnt impressed with the Hearns fight. In fact, it was the Hearns fight that made me pick Norris in the first place

you wont see responses like "not enough information to answer the question"

that would clearly be seen as ducking the questin

and I dont conduct myself in that manner

I'm not as impressed with his performances as you so when you bring up those fights, he looks rougly the same to me without significant changes

now let me ask you, what did you see in UNO MAS that leads you to belive Ray was ready to be taken?

he's compared with Al of the Berbick fight but the way I see it there are no similarities

Ray had the movement, the combinations, the speed, and outscored Duran by miles

what was wrong with him? Did he take punishment?

I didnt see Ray hurt once

the problem in the Norris fight is he wasnt used to the speed becuz all his opponents excpet for Hearns, were stalkers

    all of them

I know, its hard to swallow but Ray only faced one fighter in his whole career that had speed and gave him movement and he won only becuz Tommy, weight drained and all, gave out in the late rounds

As Gil Clancy said at the conclusion, "if Tommy Hearns hadnt take off that extra weight, I think he wouldve had the strength to pull out those last two rounds"

lets face it, Ray was hopelessly behind. so why do u keep referring to "Leonard from the Hearns fight"?

and what's so great about the Kalule fight? He looked ordinary
