the man knows his boxing, is a historian, very articulate and i think he would make a great commentator or analyst

imagine him and merchant going at it, the ratings would go threw the roof

why have no networks tried to get him?

It actually is the reason really, the controversy surrounding the man.

Articulate? Have you actually heard the man speak before?! He's slow and often times very hard to understand because of that lisp and sort of the way he slurs his words now. It surprises me how many people want to see him as a commentator because IMO he'd be an awful one.

Plus, he's about as unreliable as a person can be. You can't be sure whether he'll actually show up at an event, or whether you'll find him locked up behind bars, or strung out on crack in a ditch somewhere. He's way too unpredictable for a stable job like that.

Even though Tyson knows his stuff they tried to get him, I remember it was for Rahman/Maskaev II on the TOP RANK telecast. Tyson sounded good for the first few fights then all of a sudden went mute and sounded like he was on crack everytime he said something, never seen him do that since then and not surprised at all about it.

They probably don't want him to snap and kill one of his fellow commentators

hmm says... you had me at articulate.... He's alright and I wouldn't mind him being a commentator. Keeps him busy and close to the sport.

Mike is a very good commentator. He brings a different flavor and a realness to an event. Kevin Rooney is good, too. Tyson is too unpredictable, though. You just never know with him.

hmm says... you're right.. Tyson is like that pitbull we all love even after mauling a baby to death. I'm sure he's more than capable of handling the job now after a few small trial runs.

    I saw that.

He did OK at first, but then, when Maskaev started winning and the fight became more intense, he was just basically saying "Ohhh, maaan.. Ohh, maaan.." over and over again.

I'd like for him to get a job connected with TV boxing fight coverages, though. Maybe fight prediction/analysis inside a studio. Not play by play commentating.

I think the job would be perfect for him, and you're right. Tyson is a beloved sports icon. No matter what he does, people want to be around him. I only he loved himself.

Personally, I do not understand Mike Tyson. That is, I cannot actually make his words out.

Second, I don't think he would be a good commentator in actual practice. In theory... maybe... but actual practice that comes with all of the pressures of the job do not seem to be for a man of his nature.

He would be a liability. Hardly worth the risk.
