You have to ask Rickson and his supporters... After all, it wasn't them that fed the myth of his 400 unbeaten amador fights? Wow! At last we are agreeing about something.... :happy Ridiculous excuses.... Sure it was a REAL SAMBO fight.... Not??? Who is Zulu? Who is Takada? Looking at Rickson's record, can you consider any of that fighter a great one? Can you pick any fighter of Rickson Record to defeat any opponent of, let's say, Royce or Renzo? If i am not wrong, we are in a MMA Forum....:think Maybe, but he is Overrated in MMA... Of course, you know you can't argue his MMA opponents were good, and you know his MMA record is medÃocre.... I fully agree... :good
This is the first statement I made regarding our recent back and forth discussion. Every argument I've made since is in support of his BJJ prowess. Rickson is a bjj legend. There are numerous greats that claim that Rickson can "tap me at will." This is why his legend keeps going.
yeah but they weren't talking about that kind of tapping if you know what I mean. Nevertheless, Rickson is a legend even if todays fighters would hand him his arse.
Based on video evidence I have seen Marcelo Garcia is far more talented p4p than Rickson ever was. But he was scrub in MMA...not everyone can handle getting punched.
Fuanki was more than 'decent' fighter. Yes, he was past his prime and had a bad knee but he was ranked P4P #1 by at least one publication around 1997. Stop forgetting that, Funaki is one of the best to ever compete. If you think Bas Rutten and the Shamrock brothers were at least 'decent' fighters at one time then for God's sake so was Funaki. Seriously, enough already...
As someone already mentioned, you can't really judge Rickson's skills on how dynamic he looked, it's how effective he was. He the closed the distance ONCE, he took you down ONCE, he slapped on the submission ONCE.
Good, well rounded for his day, but never good enough to have beat saku, the man he shamelessly ducked.
Remember Saku avoided grappling with lesser Gracies, that must have been for a reason. Rickson didn't duck him he just wanted an insane amount of money. His reasoning was "I'm twice as good as Royce so they better pay twice as much" plus I do believe the death of his son(?) probably did affect his motivation to fight.
