Someone want to explain to me just how Kostya Tszyu would've beaten DLH?

Why try to explain somthing that wouldn't happen. DLH is by far better than anyone KT has ever faced and if they were to face off DLH would box his ass off. I won't say an easy win but it would be a clear cut win for the golden boy.

LOL....Speed and intelligence are qualities that you give KT over DLH!:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl #1....When has KT ever been known for speed? If anything he is more on the moderate side of speed. His power is unreal but he isn't more intelligent than a BOXER like DLH in the ring. DLH adapts to fights and fighters where KT sticks with the same game plan he's had since the AM days. Experience, speed, Intelligence, skills and talent are all on the side of DLH. the one great equalizer is power which goes to KT. So logically speaking its really not a hard fight to pick. DLH by KO or UD is a safe choice.

Yes power. at these lower weights (135, 140) oscar was a big puncher. Just look at their common opponents. Oscar fought them all closer to their prime and KO'd them faster than Tzyu.

    I'll disagree a bit here.

Tsyzu's speed is deceptive. He's not nearly as fluid stylistically as ODLH, but his hand speed is above average, he just didn't move laterally or in and out, but always forward.

His 1-2 was very quick and the other thing that helped him land that on faster fighters was a superior judgment of distance. This is a hard quality to define, but Tsyzu had it, particularly after the loss to Phillips, he was more measured and masterful in closing the distance on fighters with his power.

Disagree yet again. KT was one of the most decorated amateur fighters of all time, a vast wellspring of experience. Intelligence wise, he was a guy who would break down his opponents almost scientifically and take a methodical approach to training for each fight. Very high ring intelligence.

The fight would have been interesting. One would have to think that ODLH would have the edge, but there's no way you could count out KT.

How could Tszyu beat DLH? Easy, hit him on the sweetspot with that big right hand as DLH is coming forward. Ok, that is not so easy, but theorectically possible.

This is Oscar was also excellent at judging distance and timing shots. He also has a 6 inch reach advantage giving him an even bigger advantage in the distance category.

I can't. But if you asked back before '96 as to explain how Holyfield could beat Tyson, not much would have came up with a good explanation either.

I agree that KT's speed is deceptive...it's faster than he looks. But at the same time there is no questioning if DLH is fast or not, he is very fast even at his advance age for a boxer.

What I do agree with is that KT was a master at keeping his foe in his "Power Range" where he could get full extention and maximum power when he would release on of his straight rights. He was able to accurately land his most powerful of punches often and when landed perfectly of course the fight would be over.

I am well aware of KT's outstanding AM background. He is right along lines with Antonio Tarver in his AM accomplishments and pedigree. I know KT is intelligent when he prepares for his oppoents but he's not what I would call "Ring intelligent"...When he gets to the ring he has a game plan that he sticks to...he doesn't adapt in the ring...he just stays calm composed even when the fight isn't going his way.

I can't count KT out completely b/c he is a great champion, but stylistically KT is made for DLH. I see DLH Outboxing KT, possible KO but if KT lands one of those striaght rights I don't care who it is....you are going to sleep...unless it's a guy like James Toney.

Really? DLH is one of the smartest Boxers today. Floyd, Shane, DLH, Hop, JC they all have a massive amount of ring intelligence that are clearly used in every fight.

As intelligent and great as KT may have been he was not " supernatural " as Amsterdam would say.. KT had a sub-par defense PLUS every physical disadvantage you can think of.. and especially with KT's come forward style DLH wouldn't have a whole lot of trouble messing him up with hard combinations.

I love KT. Great fighter. One of the best straight rights in the past decade or so.......but Oscar would have beaten him quite easily. Not a good matchup at all.

    Curiousity.

This thread is pretty self-explanatory, I want to know what in KTs and DLHs arsenal leads Zoo-sexuals to THINK that KT would beat DLH and not many people have given me a good reason or any reason at all so far..

Too many posters on here have VERY little understanding of the mechanics of timing. Kostya Tszyu was a very unorthadox fighter in many ways, especially defensively and with the angles that he threw his punches from. Many posters here simply look at the hand speed when throwing in combination of Oscar and come to the conclusion he would destroy KT. KT was an extremely well schooled technical fighter who had an unbelievable right hand. Oscar de la Hoya is EXTREMELY open for a right hand because HE LEANS IN WITH HIS JAB. One of Oscars worst traits is his habbit of leaning forwards even when not throwing which puts him right in range for these punches. This fight would have been extremely close. Both fighters EXCEL as boxer punchers, both with different strengths. Both Hungry and powerful fighters. Oscar would win from the inside, but IMO KT had the ability to land powerful shots on Oscar by timing him on the way in and pushing back with his own jab and hook of the jab, setting him up for the right hand. Oscar is essentially a pretty poor defensive fighter despite all the work he did with Mayweather. KT would most certainly land big punches, and Oscar would get drawn into a war in this one. KT has the better stamina, but Oscar is great at adapting and over coming adversity. Sensational fight, no way in hell a blow out.
