    Weight classes.
The UFC has 8 classes. In a sport where weight advantage probably means more, as brute strength and weight is mroe useful, surely boxing could also do it, as weight does even make as much of an advantage in boxing.

Theres 17 divisions in boxing which is frankly ridiculous.

    The UFC weights are

    Flyweight 116lbs
    Bantamweight 126lbs
    Featherweight 136lbs
    Lightweight 146lbs
    Welterweight 156lbs
    Middleweight 171lbs
    Light heavyweight 186lbs
    Heavyweight 206lbs-265lbs

Now I can see a little tinkering around to add a division or two. I really dont see why there needs to be 17 divisions, which dilutes the notion of champion.

There needs to be less sanctioning bodies too, but weights are probably easier to fix for now.

actually the greater number of weight classes makes it safe for the fighters......less size mismatches..............

But I mean, we have weight classes such as 108/112/115

Is there really the need or critical masses for 3 classes under Bantam for example.

You could just do 110-114-118. Thats one gone and no size mismatches.

This could be done up and down. 10lns between division mean you can either cut down to the one below, or maybe put on a few lbs to compete at the division ahead.

Im not saying you specifically need 8. But you absolutely dont need 17.

its caused by the sanctioning bodies, more weight classes means more world titles and more sanctioning fees...

    No, weight classes are alright.

What we need is less bull sht titles.
No silver, no interim, no international.

    Only one champion per divison.

Yup, if it was up to them we'd have 92 divisions between 108 and 200, and each one would have an interim, regular, super and emeritus champion....

Less weight classes would be a good idea

    Especially the JWW-WW, JMW-MW and SMW-LH regions.

Those 3 divisions should be joined together

as for the belts, i dont even acknowledge the 'silver' belts and all that other crap

Since you're looking at MMA for alternatives you must never watch amateur boxing.

Definitely less weight classes (up to 10). Especially the lower weights. Come on some weight differences are about the same as a bottle of beer.

There are too many weight classes this is why you have all these catch weights fighters today aren't as disciplined ! this is why guys can't stay at one weight class for so long ..It's hold go back to 8 classes ..Maybe throw 2 more jr weight classes but that's it .
