The only fishy things last night were the 30 second break wilder got at the start of that round from the african american referee for no valid reason (plus the way the ref didn't break up the holding after he got hurt) and the pre-filled judging cards.
You’re reaching man. It was a good scrap. Wilder was just the better man...just like Joshua over Wald.
It looked to me as if the ref had intended to stop the fight because Wilder was taking too many head shots without firing back but since the bell rang his jumping in wasn't counted that way.
Nothing fishy at all. We saw the more skilled boxer controlling the fight (IMO) and then he got dropped. He put his foot on the gas and nearly had his guy out of there. He could have ended it in the next round but didn't for 2 reasons: 1) generally poor corner advice and fight strategy in assuming Wilder was done, or 2) he just didn't have it in the tank. I personally think it's the latter. Wilder was able to recover, Ortiz slowed down considerably and Wilder made him pay. You saw the shots they both landed and you've seen fighters recover from being hurt before. This is a fight - like Wlad/AJ - where I think both fighters come out looking good. Wilder absolutely ended this discussion of him going down as soon as someone lands (I think he may be a bit like Bradley though in that he can get rocked often but stay up) and Ortiz showed actually he is still a dangerous opponent. It did also show their bad points though in that Wilder is just not a boxer (which is what makes him fun) and Ortiz simply cannot fight for 12 rounds.
