something i find extreamly histarical about anti joe calzaghe fans!!

where is all the crying and out rage over the show boating jones did last night? .. is show boating and clowning a fighter ok now all of the sudden?

I've pointed this out before.

Calzaghe looked stupid showboating, but there was nothing morally wrong with what he did. Jones did it time and time again in his prime against overmatched opponents, and still does if he has the chance.

i have to admit, as a HUGE jones fan, i was pissed off and dissapointed when i read about that. you'd think he'd learned his lesson and when i thought about it, i figured "well jones showboated against prime fighters to show his dominance". doing it to lacy is just a dick move, especially when you KNOW how bad it feels

Calzaghe had fair play to turn the tables on Roy and give him his own medicine, BUT he looked absolutely ridiculous in the process. Some guys have panache and some guys, well... they make music videos like this one:

I think it's OK to showboat if you are truly completely dominant in a fight. If you are not it looks like a cheap shot.

I've not seen last nights fight, so if Jones did indeed showboat in similar manner to the Trinidad fight, then yes he is a twat. However I've always maintained that if you can look good showboating (in which Roy at one point did), then it's can be ok to do so.

But if showboating is not in your nature, and you're doing it against a guy who you once stated as "shot", then you're gonna make yourself look stupid. It can be cringeworthy to watch. Especially when you consider the fact that 6 or 7 years ago (when the fight should have taken place), Jones would have knocked the stuffing out of him.

It was mostly shock value with Joe feeding Jones his own medicine, and people still have problems accepting the input. I think it was fun for a minute or two (Roy showboated a bit too), but it was too much and Calzaghe is not exactly good at it, lol.

But there's another thing: as Enzo pointed out correctly, Jones fights off the rope very well using good defense vs. 1-2s, leaning back, creating some space and loading up his Captain hooks. With Calzaghe leaning very close to Jones gloves, Roy couldn't create the necessary space anymore and Joe was out of harm's way for most of the fight. Tarver stayed in the pocket and unloaded combos too, remember, but Calzaghe used it even more effectively, knowing Jones spends too much time at the ropes. So that wasn't part of the showboating but the tacticts. The other stuff were obviously annoying.

 

Both were **** on for showboating though Jones just looks better doing it. Calzaghe does these dancing moves that aren't even funny.

You should have seen them when Jones was knocked the spark out against the legends Tarver and Johnson.
