^Exactly. The fact of the matter is despite winning gold in the Olympics and being an undefeated power puncher, boxing writers didnt take foreman that seriously. Team frazier didnt either, which is why they considered him a "tune-up" calibre opponent and frazier did not respect him and kept heading straight at him in their fight. Most writers felt Frazier would win because his amazing performance against Ali was fresh in their mind's.

Foreman didnt beat a bunch of tough ranked prime heavies to get that ranking, hence why most boxing writers wrote him off outside a punchers chance. As you pointed out, frazier had beaten the #3, 4, & 7 guy and then beat rhe #1 contender Ali the following year. That's pretty damn dominant and convincing.

Liston was black balled and accused of quitting after 2 humiliating losses and no one wanted him near the title, so he took easy money against c level european guys. Cooper was past his prime and not a serious threat and if Ali and patterson could stop him, frazier might have literally murdered him.

Mac foster was brutally stopped by quarry in 1970, a guy frazier had beaten. He ended the year beating an old zora folley, which isnt much to brag about.

Given that no one knew what a monster Foreman truly was, based on the top 10 rankings, the only guy worth mentioning is Garcia who was on a win streak and KOed Ken Norton. But Garcia was ranked a mere #10 and i don't remember reading that he challenged or negotiated with frazier's camp so how can you call it a duck?

Frazier obviously didnt have the greatest reign in history but to act like he was some mediocre champ is ridiculous. His resume is solid, it gets no less than A- by any objective measure. Coljimar doesn't watch boxing and clearly doesnt do research before he makes his ridiculous claims.

I think Durham's thinking was ,"lets get this big guy before he improves".
