Styles make fights. Algieri mimicked the style Lamont Peterson used effectively against Khan. Algieri did a fine job. He just doesn't have any power to speak of.

If Floyd Mayweather chooses Khan for his next opponent, Floyd will get the last knockout of his career.

Mayweather-Khan is a terrible fight. Khan lost the last two title fights he competed in, getting knocked out by Danny Garcia and losing to Lamont Peterson. He didn't do himself any favors in the Algieri fight, either.

Now that Pacquiao is out of the way, there has been talk of Cotto wanting a rematch with Floyd, and Canelo seeking a second chance at him. A 42-year-old Marquez is also pursuing a rematch. Yet all of them have been there before and didn’t appear to do anything to warrant rematches.

Danny Garcia seemed like he was poised to get a crack at Mayweather, after beating Khan and dominating Lucas Matthysse, but he’s since struggled with the likes of Mauricio Herrera and (again) Peterson.

All things being equal, the most logical contenders for Floyd’s next fight – none of whom have faced him before – are all black fighters.

At welterweight, the fellow champs are Kell Brook and Keith Thurman. The best fighter without a belt is Tim Bradley (who is fighting Jessie Vargas next). At super welterweight, there is the undefeated Demetrius Andrade and Jermell Charlo. At super lightweight, there’s Terence Crawford (the Ring Fighter of the Year) and Lamont Peterson. Shawn Porter and Adrien Broner are facing each other next. If Broner looks impressive, he is a possibility.

Yet, the chances of a black fighter getting a shot at Floyd next seem slim to none. In the past nine years, Floyd has faced one fellow black fighter (Shane Mosley).

It's like he's drawn the color line when it comes to black challengers.

But Khan, Cotto, Alvarez, Garcia ... none of them sound appealing.

Fight Thurman. Fight Brook. Fight Bradley. Hell, fight Crawford.

Khan has zero chance (and frankly, neither does Cotto or Alvarez or Garcia).

    :yep

    Correct on all points.

Since Khan chose to refuse the Brook fight, he needed to stop Algieri to have any realistic chance of fighting Mayweather.

How can Floyd sell a Khan fight now? Floyd just comfortably defeated Pacquiao. Pacquiao absolutely hammered Algieri, won every round and dropped him six times ... Yet Khan beats Chris 8-4 and doesn't look impressive doing so?

There is almost zero chance of Khan-Mayweather now.

An excellent post (though I very much doubt that Floyd rules out an opponent based on skin colour).

Of your "Three Zeros" I do feel that Cotto could have a decent chance of securing a rematch (MW champ, which is another belt for Floyd). Cotto didn't do too poorly in the first fight and he is a popular fighter with a good fanbase (I appreciate that Canelo has too, but he really did look poor against Floyd)

This. Khan has been overrated and strangely selected as the next bogeyman.

Khan is 5'9", Algieri is 5'10".
