This subject has never been enlightened enough on ESB for me, so I wanted to voice something on it.
it has to do with the weight gain in between the weigh-in before
the fight and the weigh-in right on fight night.
When I wake up in the morning before breakfast and am
in the buff i could step on a scale and weigh about 162 lbs
I'm probably about 8-9% bodyfat. If you told me that i'd have
to take a fight at welterweight then i'd have to cut off
a limb, seriously. There is NO way in hell i'd be able to
make 147, and even no more of a way that if I did that
I would be right back to my 162lbs just 30-32 hours later.
These guys are supposedly doing it on the reg, so i'm just
wondering what these guys are doing to accomplish this
and how they could perform a 10-12 round fight after
taking there guts out for a day to make an unnatural weight.

P.S. I've gotten down to 153 before on a candida diet
that made me feel weak and powerless, and working
out everyday, so when i say 147 is impossible for me
    i'm not being lazy.

Sorry for the rant but i'm damn curious on this one.
    Serious inquiries only please.

That's not quite how it works, christo.

They spend weeks in camp boiling down to the target for the weigh-in. This involves some dehydration toward the end. After they get off the scales, they binge eat, rehydrate, and before you know it they're "gaining" back to significantly higher than the boiled, powdered-milk version of themselves that appeared on the scale.

So it's not that they weigh 162 the day before the weigh-in, then 147 the day of, then back to 162 again.

It's more like they weigh 162 a few weeks before the weigh-in, and they shred and shred little by little and then whatever's left over towards the end they dehydrate out of themselves (say they get down to 151 by the day of the weigh-in, they'd go do pushups in a sauna wearing a fur coat until they sweat that last four pounds off).

Then by the time they have a meal and enough fluids to get themselves back into healthy fighting shape, voila, they're back up in the high 150's...higher than they'd been at in days.

In other words, the entire process (particularly the cutting process) takes place over a much longer span than just a day or two. The only part that's dramatic is the jump back up when they refuel after weighing in.

Not how it works? hmmm Don't remember giving an opinion, but good analysis beanie. So, they spend weeks getting down to a fighting weight with a dry out period at the end, and then eat 10-15 pounds of food in a little over a day right before a high cardio event. Got it! I can tell you never fought. Nice try buddy. Thanks for playing!

  4. Regarding this, a lot of fighters perform like **** on fight night for this very reason. See Pacquiao vs. De La Hoya (and im not saying De La Hoya would have done much better had he been healthy) DLH hadn't been down to 147 in like 8 years, and had to be hydrated intravenously because he went too far getting there... :dead Then he could barely throw punches, he was like a damn slug.

What's with the attitude, ****? Be grateful anyone's even indulging your stupid question.

I never said anybody eats 10-15 lbs of food in a day, now did I?

Well, you've engaged twice now in my stupid question so does that make you a ****? My attitude is with a cruddy northeastern pretentious ***** like you with your little lead in quips. " Not how it works cristo" and if you
would have actually read my WHOLE post you would see that your response is the thing that is stupid.

Not anymore. Most of the good posters left or got banned for knowing about boxing too much. Now we have these posers who need to go outside and play.

I think you're being a hairy ****. He was just saying that's not how it works, he wasn't talking you down or anything.

The fact that you then call him pretentious just because he's from the northeast leads me to believe that you're more than a hairy **** -- you're a ****ing armpit humping inbred bagpipe playing ********

See? That's why you're a dickhead. "Beanie" just broke it down for you, IN GREAT ****ING DETAIL, generously. The guy takes the time to inform you of your inquiry and that's the gratitude you show? You can tell he never fought huh? Well I can tell you've never fought at a serious level....dickhead! Now thank Mr. Fanny for playing!

They shed slowly during training the weight is monitered a nutritionist gives them a list of when, what and how much to eat. They also take suppliments. The last week is when they drastically cut down with the weight just a day or two out. When they make weight they can eat and get protein back for energy and they put atleast 10 pounds on for the fight a good night sleep a nice masssage and their ready to go.

Joshua Clottey once documented his weight gain after weighing in against Corrales. By his definition he sat and ate a shitload of pasta as soon as the weigh ins were concluded and that combined with a crap load of fluids had him balloon up to well over the MW limit.
