A big amount of the weight gained in that period is body water. So say 5-6 pounds is lost in water (guessing) from dehydration that can be regained easily. And as they've been starving themselves before the weigh in, you'd be surprised how much weight they regain by eating a substantial meal or 2.

Probably rare, but I know in DLH case against Manny he was perhaps so dehydrated and weak Freddie Roach notice DLH arms went through iv fluids. This is when he told Manny to jump on DLH. I could see some fighters using iv fluids since this is the quickest way to reach your body, but perhaps a very rare case being use. Not sure if this would make you gain a significant amount of weight, but clearly help if your body feels dehydrated and weak. I do know many of these fighters are training and been doing this for years. It takes time just like a bodybuilder to learn your body. These are just not ordinary average humans, but elite athletes. Their metabolism is also very different. Also on the side note, not all fighters gain a lot of weight. It's becoming more popular now a days, and we will clearly see this more often. It has it's advantages and disadvantages. But the most important thing is making weight in boxing.

More and more fighters are using bodybuilding styles of dieting to make weights. Cutting carbs is the primary factor which leads to the body to dehydrating and drying out. they are as weak as **** when they weigh in, thats why you see trainers on hand at the weight in with high carb drinks. Not good for the body in the long run but thats exactly how its done.
