Johnson offered to train Louis but was turned down.
Johnson boosted several black fighters and coached them , including Kid Cotton ,and George Godfrey.
Schmeling saw Louis' flaw when he watched news reels of his fights,"I zee sometings but I wont tell," you can even see it on You Tube, he didn't need Johnson's advice.
Johnson made money betting on Schmeling, but he also made money betting on Louis to beat Carnera and Baer.
Sam Langford coached Sharkey to beat Wills, both Langford and Jeannettte were big boosters of Jeffries against Johnson and told the black community to bet on Jeff.
Louis' managers wanted to keep him away from Johnson and any potential racial fall out. After Louis was ko' by Schmeling Johnson outlined why Louis had lost and Louis took umbrage against him, perfectly justifiable, but it was the truth. Johnson made no secret of the fact that he ****ed white women.Louis was more circumspect , he was under orders never to be photographed with a white woman, and never to smile after defeating a white fighter.

Spotting Johnson at one of his sparring sessions,Louis told his team,"get that black cat outta here."

Am I going to be the only one to say that that looks far more like Sam Langford than Jack Johnson? I'd have expected Johnson to be nearer in height to Louis than that. I can't believe I'm right as nobody else has brought it up but I just don't think that looks like Johnson.

That's going on the link Berlenbach posted rather than McVey's which I cant get to work.

That's the photo from the link Berlenbach posted. No wonder I couldn't see how it looked like Johnson. You got the link to the Jack Johnson pic, Mac?
