This is so ****ing true, and why i hate the connotations and concept behind an undefeated record. The best fighters of all time typically have a few losses. That doesn't negate their incredible wins.... Losses teach any athlete something. They force you to reevaluate your game and approach, see holes in you that you didn't see before... A loss doesn't mean you're a bum. You see lots of cherrypicked fighters these days with no losses, and they're losing out on what makes a fighter truly great and HoF material: experience from hard-fought wars. I'm not saying PBF is one of those, by the way.
I don't see anything out of the ordinary about Khan's rebuilding his career. You're supposed to go back to the drawing board, you're supposed to earn your way back up to a high ranking. It has always been like this.....You are right though about the only thing that's changed is how fans today view their fighter, which is my whole point. Mayweather has set an impossible standard and everyone is judged by their losses. Great fighters are viewed negatively because they have losses. All great fighters have losses. Khan wasn't judged harshly because he lost. He was just harshly because he was so heavily hyped, with no world championship belt making more money than other British champs, got put in against a nobody he was supposed to beat, and got smashed in the first round.
I've head this one before. Supposedly Mosley was so much more dangerous than anyone else Mayweather faced, and people said Mayweather's father was scared of Mosley when he stated he wanted his son to fight a couple of tuneups before taking on Mosley. We've already been through all of this. Pretty much everyone will jump on the "Floyd and everyone in his family is scared to death of Pacquiao" bandwagon. You would think that this same people would pick Pacquiao without reservation. Watch if this fight gets signed, these same people will sit on the fence as to who will win or they will straight up pick Mayweather. We haven't heard anything from Mayweather, GBP, or Ellerbe about this or any other fight. Meanwhile, Arum has broke his rule about negotiating through the media, and already has another fighter, date, and location lined up for Pacquiao. Amazingly, people still claim Mayweather is the one looking to get out of the fight.
Khan is just an example their are numerous others, the fact is more emphasis is placed on a loss these days which has led to fighters being more selective about their opponents in this modern era of boxing.
Come on, this is terrible logic. Mayweather and various members of his camp agree that the current version of Pacquiao (supposedly the one already on PEDs) is one dimensional, a midget, nothing to worry about at all. Floyd has the advantage in weight and height and reach. And yet still they won't fight him for $50M? And your logic is that because Arum has used Margarito to threaten Floyd that his last major payday (with Mosley out of the way I see no more credible threats for Floyd) has no problem going elsewhere if he doesn't sign on to fight him soon, that he is the one looking to get out of the fight? And I do pick Pacquiao without reservation. I can see Floyd cruising to an easy UD. But I doubt it. As soon as this fight is made my money is on Pac.
I think its just brilliant marketing, if, IF the fight comes off. The attention generated is insane and the debate as evidenced by the 432098287504329875 threads about steroids, xylocaine and other PED or HGH drugs has been nuts. That said, I believe Pacquiao with his style could take gamma radiation ala Bruce Banner and turn into the Hulk and still get outboxed all night. If the fight doesn't come off, we're basically all doomed to repeat this argument into the near future and longer term, any time legacy or these fighters are discussed, it will be forever painful.
I think the problem is everyone is looking for the next big thing, the next DLH, and with Pac and PBF about to leave the stress put on these young fighters shoulders is too much. The thing about DLH's rise is he really didn't give a **** that much, the tide swept him up, he'd be goofing around before fights, banging girls in the dressing room and whatnot. He was a star before his first fight. But the stress that night when Victor Ortiz lost to Maidana was very visible, the GBP guys there, the cameras. It was way over the top.
You pick Pacquiao to win without reservation yet you can see Floyd cruising to an easy ud? Yeah, that makes sense.:rofl Your post flawed is from the beginning when you said Mayweather wouldn't fight Pacquiao. Didn't Mayweather offer a 14 day window months ago? Didn't Pacquiao straight out reject it because he claimed he wouldn't be able to train for 3 days? Now he says he's ok with 14 days. Is he all of a sudden now able to train after getting blood drawn? I think the more likely answer is that he straight up lied. The fight would've happened already had he agreed to the 14 days months ago when it was offered. We don't know how Mayweather feels now, because he's kept quiet and hasn't resorted to negotiating through the media; something that Arum claims will kill the fight and something that Arum and Pacquiao have resorted to doing once again.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall in Pacquaio's camp if Mayweather agrees to 14 days. I'd like to see what move they'd make to get out of facing Mayweather this time.
This might prove to be true. The very fact that the fight hasn't been made yet and that Floyd senior has been saying these things could all be part of the Mayweather anti-propaganda machine. The greatest things that Floyd and his team have ever done, arguably, are to convince us that people like Hatton and Mosley had a chance to beat him. They never did. They were never on the same level and were handicapped sufficiently by issues of age or size. It is interesting to note that there are two very obvious sides to Floyd Sr.'s persona - one is a raving madman who says ridiculous **** like pacquiao's body is still feeling the benefits of steroids and so we will never fight him even though we just fought proven steroid user mosley. And the other is quite level-headed, like on 24/7 when he talks about what floyd will do to beat Shane. It could be that either Sr. is a ****ing lunatic. Or, that like Jr., he has a persona that he uses to hype a fight and acting like he doesn't want the fight for his son is part of it. If eventually the fight is made and Floyd crushes Manny, it will once again be genius marketing. You have to look at RJJ doing his own marketing and as such, because he sucked at it, was never able to manipulate the media into believing he had a credible threat. He was too much better than everyone else and so he made a sliver of the money from fighting, that Floyd does now. This is all of course, a theory. And while it could be true. My personal view is that Floyd considers Manny too much of a threat to his 0 which is going to guarantee continued moneys for him and his. His top priority is his health going forward, and he's getting to the point now where if he loses to a swarming knock out artist like Pacquiao, he's probably not going to want to avenge that loss and risk further detriment to his health. To be fair, we say he should take the fight because for ****ssake it is $50 million. But thinking long term, with Mayweather promotions and his future stable of fighters, etc.., that 0, the belief that he might have been the greatest fighter of all time, we just don't know, will be worth far, far more than $50m and is worth not gambling with. I don't condone this behaviour, in fact I loath it. But I'm just saying, it does make sense.
i honestly dont see anything wrong with that long as he faces the best...random drug testiing is a positive.
a) I believe that Pacquiao and his camp did not want the fight the first time. I think they wanted to get the election out of the way and that they knew they needed more time to prepare for Mayweather's style. In this case he did lie. However, it's equally as likely that he just didn't want to buckle to Mayweather's demands. Roach tells him what to do and he was the most adamant about not letting Floyd ***** him. Now Roach sees that Floyd's legs are gone and Manny wants the fight so badly he finally does buckle. People are allowed to change their minds I think. They want it now though, if you ask me, they're saying all of the right things and Floyd is nowhere to be found. In fact the last I heard is this rumor that now he wants a bigger portion of the purse. b) I pick him without reservation. Maybe I misspoke, but when I say I can see Floyd cruising to an easy UD I mean I believe it is in the realm of possibility and I would be impressed yet unsurprised if I saw it. But I don't think it is the most likely outcome. Far from it, as I believe the most likely outcome is this version of Pacquiao stops this version of Mayweather.
Thanks for including this part. I don't even need to respond to the rest of your post. I simply can't take your opinion seriously
The only way that destroys my response is if it is factually and statistically impossible Freddie feels that way. Can you speak for his inner-most thoughts? I doubt it. I can see why you gravitate towards Floyd since you clearly took the easiest way out of debating this with me. And fyi it was only easy because it makes absolutely no sense to debase an entire argument based on one piece of conjecture.
