To be honest, this isn't really something that can be discussed in much detail but this forum is the best place to ask about it. It's just before the start of the Thrilla in Manila. Does anything seem odd to you in this clip? The link is timestamped and you only need to watch it for about five seconds: This content is protected
Ali not having his gloves on until he entered the ring? Same with Joe. I thought the same thing during that great tracking shot in Raging Bull when he walks out for the title fight. He only had his wraps on, but not his gloves.
Nope. It's not that. It isn't even boxing related, to be honest but I noticed it immediately the first time I watched the fight. Do you want to guess again or should I say what it is?
Rahman Ali... What's he laughing at? No one has said anything to him, no one is looking at him. My impression was that he knew the camera was pointed at him so he was trying to look cool and relaxed before the start of the fight.
I like how you threw up a curio observation re the vid without revealing what it was. More fun. It had us looking very closely and perhaps finding other interesting features. I noted that as soon as Ali hit the ring, he disrobed. We know it was incredibly hot and humid in Manila. I don’t know how long before Joe entered the ring prior to Ali - but Joe still has his robe and maybe a towel underneath also. As to Rahman laughing, I think while shadow boxing Ali does say something briefly which you can see for a nano sec but for the most part his face is obscured by the back of Saddler’s head in that short instance.
Possibly but Rahman doesn't look at his brother which I think is the natural to do if he had just said something funny. I still think Rahman was trying to look cool, relaxed and one of the lads in front of the camera.
On a separate point, when did Dick Sadler join Ali's camp, what was his role and when did he leave? Manila is the only fight I can recall where I noticed Sadler in Ali's entourage.
