Something that's really pissing me off...

Who exactly is advocating "learning" fights? From what i hear, there are some big names being tossed around when Khan's name is mentioned: Judah, Marquez, Bradley?

Yes he's world champion but he won the belt from Kotelnik and has beaten Salita inside 90 secs in his first defence. As his promoter would you put him in with Timothy Bradley?

Nope. Disagree. I don't think he's a million miles away but I think two more defence against good opposition and then at the end of next year I'd put him in a unification fight with Bradley. You gotta let this one come to the boil and make it a mega fight. Put them on the same cards co-headlining. This will be a terrific yet but it's a year in the making for me.

 

I agree with the op, get him in a real fight. If he loses, so what? The last thing anyone should want him to be is another Calzaghe.
Bradley, Alexander, Malinaggi, Urango, Holt. All risky fights, all potential banana skins but all likely to be good scraps.

 

It just sums up a lot of what is wrong with this sport at the minute. It's not just a Khan thing.

You have a world champion, supposed to be one of the best in the world yet cant fight other world champs because he's not ready. It's laughable, I absolutely detest all these different governing bodies.

I agree with you. There are loads of decent fighters in the Light Welter division and I don't mind seeing him against any out of a list of Nate Campbell, Paul McCloskey, Mike Alvarado, Ajose Olusegan, Victor Manuel Cayo, Joel Casamayor.

The reality is that fights against the likes of Tim Bradley, Juan Urango, Devon Alexander are high risk and low reward at the moment because they aren't big names and other then Bradley there isn't a proven world champion at the division. I always believe that a champion needs to get to 3 defense's before he deserves a unification fight because they need to prove that they belong at championship level.

 

I wouldn't throw him in with the likes of Bradley or JMM quite yet.

Nothing wrong with him fighting Maidana, Ortiz, Alexander or Mallinaggi though.

I would also keep him well away from Urango, and wouldn't fancy his chances against a fully focused and fully fit Holt. Torres would be another one to avoid, but I see he was fighting at 151 in his last fight, so God knows if he'll drop back down to LWW or settle up at WW instead.

But look who he won it off & who he defended it against, and he got brutally Ko'd not too long back. He's still very young 4 a world champ. Does he look like the finished article?

Khan probably demanded that Warren get him a shot as part of the contract negotiations. The title is still a bauble. As long as he fights some decent guys who are a bit from their prime, it's ok: Judah and Campbell would be good tests. Decent fighters, some stylistic issues for Khan to deal with, and preparing him for tougher fights against the Bradleys, and the Peterson's of the world.
