Not saying it's a superfight today or anything, but he's a good substitute nonetheless. Let's not forget these were the rankings at the start of 2006: Title: vacant 1. Byrd (knocked out in 7 months later) 2. Rahman (was seen as THE challenge) 3. Toney (has no chance of beating Klitschko) 4. Brewster (dominated a year later) 5. Ruiz (still hanging about) 6. Barret (knocked out in 2001) 7. Brock (knocked out after fighting Byrd) 8. Wlad 9. Peter (decisioned him several months before these rankings) 10. Valuev (might come off in the future) Pretty damn impressive. After Klitschko beat Byrd, Rahman was seen as the only one having a chance to beat him, even if it was a remote one. Remember that this was before the Maskaev fight. Whatever the outcome, Rahman-Klitschko will be an exciting fight and is sure to end in a knockout.
The only reason Rahman was a mandatory for Vitali was because Don King thought he had the best chance at beating the older Klitschko. Rahman was there for the same reason Ray Austin was Wlad's mandatory because Don King got him the ranking. I think Rahman beat Meehan (who was also a King fighter) to become Vitali's mandatory. King was just trying to steal a belt hoping Rahman could get lucky and beat Vitali. It is King's usual I will put my fighter with no belt up against your fighter that has a belt. Rahman had beat nobody to be the WBC Mandatory challenger. Rahman will get his Glass Jaw knocked out and I only wish Vitali had fought him 4 years ago.
Are you trying to hype this bad boy Chris? You seem awfully interested in what will be nothing more than a Wlad cakewalk.
