After watching friday fights on austar for years there are 2 things you can count on.

The opposition from overseas are gonna be much smaller than the local boys

Both guys are gonna start to slip on sponsers signs as the fight progresses

Im not a fighter but if i was i would want to progress by fighting better and better opposition untill i have to face those mexicans

And i would refuse to slip and slide around waiting to do a knee

How hard is it to have a ring that wont get slippy
How sad is it to win all the time and then find out the mexicans dont fold up when you finaly get to meet them .

You make some valid points, but its not an easy gig here in oz.

Its great to see you're supporting by watching, but until popularity grows, thats where we are left standing.

Of course some promoters are going to take the soft road, but the diamonds are few & far between. Promoters do pretty well with what there is to work with. And also fox/austar.

True mate. A 20-0 record suggests sweet FA these days. The local am. scene in Vic is going nuts now, hopefully indicating a good depth of Pro's in the short term future.

Hesitancy among trainers to match local guys is doing no favours to the fighters either, as equal tests are few and far between.. dont want to spoil the 20-0 record.

Seems older pugs on the way out are the only ones being matched with locals, offering experience for the up and comers. In fairness, its easy to understand the trainers/promoers unwillingness to blemish the kids record, as the loss could crush a young bloke, although a kid with genuine class and educated managers should see a loss as an experience to work from.

Fammo, Lionel, Darcy, Michael, Ellis, Richards, Palmer etc etc all suffered early losses.. kept chasing dreams and created Legends.

Other BIG names sunk to new lows at the first loss, after a career of being 'unbeatable'... or 'well matched' by astute promoters. Being convinced of invincibility works unfavourably when faced with a huge loss.

When the local scene captures the required depth of fighters to allow/enforce a bigger following at each promotion, then we might see guys go into the record books as Champs, even with early blemishes.

As for the slippery canvas'.. ****ed if I know.

Your first two posts have been great.

.... His reasoning has been a little more unique than the usual Mundine tripe.
