Damn I seriously tried to make sense of this for a while. It looks really bad, the only excuse I can come up with is.. Chael felt, or at some point trained to go down to his hands and knees if his back were against the cage to avoid the thai plum/ to avoid being struck in the head. It's sort of a ***** move, so I'd expect it of Chael. Still, I look at this gif again and it looks pretty damning.
That knockdown punch appears to be very minor. I think Chael might have fallen just because he was feeling overwhelmed, more than anything. He would have preferred to fight off of his back, and maybe try for a transition, than continue standing with Anderson. Unfortunately for him, Anderson didn't let up, so he turtled up and the ref stepped in.
As I said, I doubt it was a work. But look at those gif out of context and it does look fishy. Some people just want and excuse to bash the UFC any way, this is their chance. (that's your cue, Morono)
Agree. And would add exhausted to that He gave his all in round 1.... then Anderson jogged back to his corner without a care and didnt even sit down. What a spirit sapper
Anderson landed some heavy punches on him while he was on the ground, before that punch in the gif....
