Sonny Bill Williams fight on hold after his opponent Richard Tutaki was arrested

SONNY Bill Williams' next boxing opponent has been axed after the New Zealand Herald revealed he was behind bars for failing to turn up to court this week to face criminal charges, including possession of methamphetamine.

An arrest warrant was issued for Richard Roretana Tutaki, 33, after he did not appear at the Auckland District Court on Tuesday.
Tutaki, whose bout against the All Blacks midfielder was to take place at Claudelands Arena in Hamilton on February 8, faces more than 10 charges dating back to last February.
They include possession of methamphetamine and drug utensils, breach of bail, three counts of receiving stolen property, unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, failing to remain stopped and giving false details to police.
Police spokesman Inspector Gary Allcock said Tutaki was arrested later on Tuesday at his girlfriend's home in Wiri, south Auckland. He was refused bail and will remain in custody until he appears in court again next Tuesday.

The fight promoter, Khoder Nasser, New Zealand broadcaster Sky TV and the New Zealand Professional Boxing Association did not know Tutaki was in custody until the New Zealand Herald told them.

Contacted by Boxing Association chairman Lance Revill last night, Nasser instructed that Tutaki be dropped from the card. It is understood that Tutaki had trained either very little or not at all for the fight, and there were concerns in boxing circles about his physical and mental condition.
One boxing source said there was no way Tutaki, a 40-fight journeyman who has a record of 19 wins and 21 losses, was in a fit state to enter the ring.:deal

If he wasn't already arrested then on that write up alone he looks like an appropriate opponent for a Boxa promotion.

wonders WTF the SBW backslappers have to say now..

This was supposed to be some BIG Ass hard stepup fight for SBW according to the asslickers, what do you girls have to say for yourselfs now? I along with others stated from the onset that this guy should not be in a boxing ring, listed the people whom had knocked him out etc but some people love to spread butter on **** and dish it up to people for supper!

SBW should not be permitted to fight on MainEvent and AUS boxing should kick him in the ass if he comes over here again, he is getting away with alot of sht in NZ but he isnt the only one, on the Mundine undercard an 18 yr old Kid managed by Khoder fought a white collar boxer who hadnt fought before and was 50 YEARS OLD!

So Tukaki's not just a very limited boxer, he's also a junky who hadn't trained at all, and is now in the lockup

Logical step would be to declare the title vacant and order a rematch for it against Gary 'the gorilla' Gurr or Ryan 'hulk in a hoodie' Hogan

That was terrible when he fought Hoppa.

To be fair looking at his record he's a lot better than Ryan Waters last opponent and Ryan was a full time boxer. I wouldn't of bothered with this fight but there has been worse.
