exactly RL survived tuquiri, sailor, rogers leaving the sky didnt fall in did it.there will be more exciting players coming through like your sandows, suttons and sowards and union will always be dull run, kick, run, kick with dozens of penaltys and and those group sex thingies rucks and mauls i think they call it.league will be fine this is all just media talk in 6 months time it will be sonny who?
If you asked the average man on the street in Sydney or Brisbane to name 5 current RU players I think they would struggle. Especially if they weren't allowed to name ex-RL players. The strength of union here and O/S is based on elitism. For the most part, the general public does not go to rugby internationals in Australia, the tickets are purchased in bulk by clubs and the opposing nation and sold on to their members. Super 14 games get decent attendances but a large portion of the crowd are private school kids and old boys there for the social event. Additionally there are very few home games compared to rugby league. ***digression*** In France, Rugby League was bigger than soccer and union crowd wise before the second world war. When the Nazi collaborationist government got in power after the Germans invaded, they BANNED rugby league and handed the leagues assets to the RU. This effectively 'broke' rugby league in France and it has never recovered. Union is a Nazi sport!!!!!!! ***end stupiod digression*** The main source of RL news in Australia is through News Ltd. Despite having a financial stake in the game, it mission seems to be to find scandal and discontentment in the game. The Daily Telegraph is the New Idea of rugby league, nothing more than a gossip rag when it comes to sport. In my opinion, AFL is just as scandal ridden as league but less noise is made about it. It's reported and not harped on. Whereas Sydney writers would beat the story to within an inch of its life. AFL writers seem to show a respect and love for, and most importantly, a knowledge of, the game of AFL. The biggest problem with rugby league is that it is half privately owned. That means that people somwhere expect a dividend. If it was 100% owned by an administration run purely for the game, then there would be a lot more money to spend on development, promotion and grants. PS - I know that was well off topic. BTW Has anyone considered that Sonny Bill may be struggling financially? One of the papers claims that he pays 9000 a month in interest payments at the moment. That's 108,000 per year. And he's on 200k after tax at bulldogs?
Actually I disagree with you on that one. The new rule changes have made the game far more exciting, last week's Bledisloe was proof of that. End to end stuff.
This content is protected Mate this doesn't surprise me at all. In fact i'm paid well above most average first graders, people seem to think they are highly paid. After tax the top players don't clear as much as we think or papers report.
