Interesting to see how he gets on. Im sure theres fights against the likes of Gallen that he could make good money from. He has a few years to try to make something of himself. Not saying he ends up being world class, but hes a world class athlete and was looking decent in the ring before he went back to rugby.
The biggest issue is being fluid, mobile and commiting it all to muscle memory so it all becomes natural and part of your ring IQ. Look at Dillian Whyte. He started late and it shows. He will never be better than this unless he overcomes it with sheer hard work and determination. Then look at Mike Tyson; he has lived 1000 lives and abused his body but still looks awesome on the pads and can still look very very very decent. Your body stops learning after certain period of time.
Didn't he go life and death with an ancient 45 year old Botha? He probably knows he is not very good but he is trying to milk his name to a few nice cheques.
Is having a tough fight with a former champion in your 6th pro bout, with mo amateur experience, really that bad?
Of course not. Botha may have been ancient and fat, and not Botha anymore, but still. I think you've missed the point, frankly. The spectator should view Sonny Williams through the same lens as they would view any other boxer who went life and death with that version of Botha, 6th bout or not. In fact, I've yet to see any evidence which suggests that boxers in their 6th pro bout are not ready to beat up old, fat and shot contenders of yester-yesteryear. You said that it will be interesting to see how he gets on - fine. He will be defeated by anybody who is half decent. You seem to be concerned about his bank balance. Are you his accountant?
He is a thoroughbred..he does well at whatever he tries his hand at. A bit long in the tooth now but his only goal is to fight other cross coders like Hall and Gallen for that paper.
