@GALVATRON -- as much as it pains me to say this -- made a thread on Sonny a couple months ago, and so did @IntentionalButt or @CST80...... Ya I really like the kid and he has a great story. He really packs some TNT especially for someone without "modern day SHW" type proportions. I'll be rooting for the kid to achieve as much as possible and want the most/best for him as possible and as far as natural talent and ability are concerned hes got as much as anyone but talent can only take you so far. I just fear he started too late, which may prohibit him from being a top 5-7 HW when all is said and done. With his natural ability -- regardless of how late he started -- he can still have a very fulfilling and fun career to watch and follow and certainly be a very competitive top 10 HW. The kid without a doubt is a phenom though.
I'm sorry, I was under the impression Sonny actually began training and competiting, but just notifed he had a 40-2 amateur record, so he must have at least grown up training and boxing since like 14-15 years old. Whatever, there is a ton to like about Sonny, he has some pretty astonishing natural talent. Id love to see him be a long time champion and contender. 6'4 (forgive me I'm not too sure what his reach is) and 219 lbs certainly isnt ideal at HW but with his hand speed and C4 loaded hands and surprising skill set, he really could make a ton of noise at the top of the division for a long time. Again, I'm sorry for that, i was under the impression he began training and competing somewhere around 2015-16 and hadnt had much if any competitive experience beyond his 2017 and 2018 GG's tournaments but I gotta be way off on that.
Wlad Klitschko was 222/225 at the same age....he's not going to be 220 very long with the way he trains which is strength training ...emphasis on generating most power . Sonny father was body builder and huge. Genetics are highly going to probably see him 230 in very short time.
Good point I didnt even realize that. Ya man, you were right, good call on Sonny, I'm a believer in this kid. Really excited to see how he does.
He has the offensive ability of a young Klitschko if he can maintain that while making sure he doesn't punch himself out ,he'll be o.k. Klitschko was one of the best offensive fighters of all time until he changed it up , he had trouble balancing both offensive and defensive tactics...Steward made him safety first and it worked . With Conto he's also a very good inside fighter so maybe we see a progressive , very offensive type fighter a bit longer. As fighters age they fight smarter and use other tactics to win fights , should be interesting.
Quick glance at him, I like this kid. He actually moves with a bit of skill (which is really lacking in the HW division). Let's see where this goes.
Why is this guy celebrating like he won the title after dispatching a totally hopeless tomato can in a few rds ? I'll reserve my judgement.
