What do you want anyone to say? We have a video of Foreman himself saying that Liston was probably the strongest heavyweight he'd ever dealt with and then we have an article by ring mag that claims Foreman said Lyle was the strongest. Also, the author is claiming that Foreman said Lyle was the strongest man he ever faced in a fight. That's important because Liston and Foreman never fought.

Don't you believe it, Pat. The fellas from Hallowe'en and Friday 13th could learn a thing or two about not lying down on this forum.

One things for sure - Liston was damn strong regardless of semantics. Top tier strength.

If you think that, it is necessarily the case that you lack the intelligence to follow elementary propositional logic.

Jesus, there is nothing more invidious than stupidity and smugness combined.
I can abide either on their own, but the two together form a catalytic reaction that makes me want to ugently smack that bottle of Dunning and Kruger gin out of an idiot's mouth, and a few of his teeth along with it.

I guess the obvious fix of the second Liston fight and the fbi report declassified in 2014 saying that well know sports fixer Ash Resnick was part of the clay liston fix and only an idiot or fanboy could believe the second wasn't. Then you have Foreman saying he was drugged by his trainer in the zaire fight. Besides Ali's dirty tactics in zaire which were at least 100 times holding foreman behind the neck about 25 times of those holding and pushing his head down to Alis waist level, lacing Georges face with his gloves, back hand and rabbit punches, George looked like a medicated man trying to box. The way he fell like a nose diving airplane didn't look like from a punch but his body giving in to the effects of the drug. Foreman goes back on forth saying one day he was drugged next occassion he wasn't drugged because originally he wanted to come back and get a title shot and later to keep doing fight commentary. Ali was a very dirty fighter when he needed to be and after his first frazier fight he did it increasingly often to the point of ridiculousness in the middle to late 70s. Monzon I think was the most consistently dirty. Hagler also dirty but never getting credit for it. I don't have a high opinion of Ali the fighter as most and I originally was a big fan of his before I studied boxing more and realized he was chosen to be champ hated more than Liston then considered a legend after his Vietnam stand but Alis legacy is fake both politically and in the ring.

For the quote-lovers: Just stumbled across a quote in a January 17, 1992 article where Foreman says that Ali was "the toughest, strongest man I ever fought." ("Muhammad Ali Turns 50 Today").

You really can’t take anything old Foreman says with any seriousness. Even young thuggish Foreman seem to make more sense and that guy hardly said 2 words during the 70s.

Foreman never actually fought Liston though. Only sparred. Ali is probably the best pick in an actual boxing match.

Not sure that he meant to draw any such distinction but fair enough. He also listed Lyle as the strongest man he ever faced in a different interview though.

I think George is trying to come across as a good man even if it means pushing the bounds of honesty a bit. A million worse lies are told everyday.

Probably. Doesn't make him a bad guy. But it goes to show why I think it's kind of silly (or disingenuous) to take a Foreman quote at face value.

And picking and choosing to credit only the particular Foreman quotes we like, as many seem to do, is pretty bogus imo.

George is a very good man whose primary fault is that he likes to please everyone which can lead to mixed messages and him sometimes contradicting himself on occasion.

George tragically lost his daughter Fredda just recently yet the way he has responded publicly with class, compassion and caring has been a credit to him as a person. He hasn’t hidden away and been open with his fans about his loss.

Big George is a great ambassador for the sport despite him forgetting how hes answered the same question he’s been asked a hundred times over the years

He probably recalls the few that standout. Liston apparently did.
